UK Handlebars?

In an attempt to correct the issue of having the front MC rotated too high for ideal comfort on the brake lever, I ordered a new handlebar that was listed as Euro bend for MKII Commando. Well it's pretty much exactly what I already have., so didn't fit it and I'm working with the Canadian vendor to see what can be done.

Here are some snaps of the dimensions:

Looking at the OldBritts dimensions page (http://www.oldbritts.com/70_20.html) shows quite a different bend on the UK bars:
"The factory Norton UK bar (06-4132, $57.74) and measures W 31", H 2", PB 6"."

What do I have here? Were these for non-disc brake bikes or just totally incorrect?

Look like normal European bars to me - master cylinder interference is one reason I like "western bars". Also, I like to sit a little more upright and I'm tall. I put those bars on the 72 I just sold and it was a matter putting the master cylinder where it had to go. In fact, I moved the throttle and master cylinder out to the right about 1/2" to get a better angle on the master cylinder.

Those bars are pretty much what came on my US 1971 Fastback.
My US 850 Mk2a came with low bars not unlike the 06-4132 but when I bought a new pair (4132) they are similar but 34 inches across and the pull back is more severe.

Your 4132 is nothing like what I have (AN) the 2 inch rise is very noticeable as in Low.
With the ends laying on a flat surface the rise is near vertical if not running forward, on the bike, if the rise was anywhere inline with the fork, the ends would have a massive amount of downward angle which seems a little unEuropean.

went through the same thing a few months back. I ordered the UK bars from AN, and they measured out the same as in your pic - about 27" wide. however, I had interference problems with my brake master cylinder - it seems those are correct for the 75 MkIII. the only UK bars that fit perfectly, where everything fell into place on my 74 MkII, came from old britts and measured out at 31" i'll have to look at my paperwork, but i'm thinking they are the same bars you reference - "The factory Norton UK bar (06-4132, $57.74) and measures W 31", H 2", PB 6"."

According to the Mk2/2A supplement, "HANDLEBAR EUROPE"(& UK) was 064887.

correct - I remember this same conversation a while back on another thread. in fact, I ordered the handlebars from AN (064887) based on that thread. as I stated, they were not correct for my Mk2 - my front brake hose routed down the center of the upper fork yoke. I then ordered the handlebars from old brits, P/N 064132 which were, IMO, correct. it seems that the AN part was for the Mk3, unless Norton, with the supplement data intended to change the design. I do not have the expertise to say one way or another what is correct, all I can say is the old britt's UK bars work for me.

The hose routed down the centre of the yoke would seem to be correct for 064887 according to the pics.

Yes, they seem to be 064132 but Tornado's "06-4132S/S" label 'bars don't.

The Mk3 "European" handlebar is 065748 but also listed as 064887. The different part numbers, however, suggest they were not the same.

I guess the real question is what does one do withthe MC rotation issue on bikes that got the same bend as I have? Were there changes to the MC to make the whole problem go away?

again, don't have the expertise to say what's right or wrong. the only thing I can say for sure - "for sale" Andover Norton UK/euro handlebars P/N 064887. new, trial fit installed - removed, but never used. don't want to pay the UK postage for return, so $50 (OBO), shipped (lower 48) -

BTW, I see you have the turn signal switch on the right, as the bikes were sold. You may find this not to your liking as things get difficult with right hand managing throttle, braking and signals, quite often all at same time. I migrated the turns to left side. Switch gear casings are interchangeable left to right.

The main problem as I see it is the handlebar twistgrip section of these replacement 'bars is too long.

In the previous pic, the reservoir is level with the bend so the handlebar doesn't foul the master cylinder.

The Mk3 master cylinder body is significantly further away from the handlebar but fitting a Mk3 master cylinder wouldn't be a straightforward swap.

here's a couple final installation pics of my Mk2 -

note: i set my master cylinder, at least the cap, level in the fore-aft direction. the brake lever to grip orientation feels very good

note: I have about 1/4 inch clearance between the brake hose and the upper fork yoke.
