That's a great pity TW, I've always enjoyed your posts and have learnt something from them. I've always wanted a lathe (and preferably a mill as well), but have never had anywhere to keep them. It's a great pity that here in Denmark, one can find evening classes in all sorts of weird and obscure stuff, but nothing in the way of useful "artisan" courses such as welding, machining etc.

Then one reads in the newspapers that companies are crying out for trained labour who can do these things....

Short of taking a fulltime 3 month daytime course (at a very high price to boot), there's nothing available.


Sign of the times I think, but mind you, the School of Architecture & Design where I'm currently working does have very well equipped metal and wood workshops, and they do require the students to learn the basics, but it's no substitute for an apprenticeship.
