TVS Motor Company acquires Britain's 'Norton' sporting motorcycle

No buildings bought as part of the deal, only a 6 month licence to use current buildings. So no intention to stay in the stately manor.

That would be an interesting development, maybe manufacture the components in-house in India, add billet and bling in Derbyshire, keep volumes low(ish), prices high(ish), add the 'Made in Britain' flag and sell/service in established outlets globally. It won't be a cheap profit making business but it would build up the brand. Isn't that what SG attempted, and failed, to do?

"Though TVS intends to re-establish Norton as a global brand using TVS financial clout as a platform, it will do so with the existing engine options – its 650cc parallel-twin, 961cc unit and its V4."

Hmmmmmm!
They will continue with the 961 as well.
A shot fired over the bow of Jinlang perhaps?

Now this is getting very interesting.

Ha. Law suits. Zero progress.

Great to read in MCN this morning that TVS intend to honour customers with deposits and take on all design staff. So we’ll see whether that includes SS. But they won’t be taking on SG. A new MD has already been appointed.
Bit like a fairy story with the irony of the new firm standing for Trust, Value and Service. Something that was somewhat lacking before.....

16M for an iconic brand, with some reasonable IP, will be a deal in the long run... and will outlast the SG fiasco if proper investment is made.

Great news people who paid deposits for there new bikes should now still get them looks like most staff should keep there jobs still will be made in uk in small numbers looks like win win situation to me keeping it British and improving the Brand.

Given that they bought the assets and not the liabilities it is mightily impressive that they are honouring the deposits. A wise use of the marketing budget.

That is a good move that they are honouring deposits people have made a ready customer base which will improve if they get their sums right I wish them well and good riddance to SG hope things catch up with him. The work force must relieved.

That's great PR for them though isn't it, really good news. I presume that the guy who took the carcas of his V4 home will now be able to get that sorted as well.

A bit more care in reporting was in order- the "100 employees" Garner always phantasized about were actually just over 50 when the empire imploded, icluding people who resigned.

Good thinking to honour the deposits. I'd have thought it was cheaper to pay them back than to build motorcycles to do so that have yet to prove they can actually be built at the price they sold for.

MCN have yet to give a reason why they hailed Garner for over a decade having no doubt heard about the disturbing incidents with bikes robbed of parts to finish others- not a new phenomenon-, people endlessly waiting for their deliveries getting new delivery dates every time they complained, the lack of spares backup, the departure of importers after they found out their warranty claims weren't paid etcetc.... Not a recommendation for the earnestness of their reporting and a warning to believe anything in the rag.

Let’s just move on.

How dya know that Dave ?
Because it has been reported that utilities were installed up to the edge of Donington Estate last Sumner. New housing comes to mind, and might be why TVS have paid over the odds, against the valuation, they move out and recoup some of their purchase cost.

Yes we know that the motorcycle news and other media reporters were and are poor consumer protectors who certainly along with SG totally misled there customers (me),suppliers, employees and shareholders. I hope that proper investigative journalism routes out rouges like SG in future. I await a book on it, and a hopefully a legal reckoning for SG from the lawyers and judges. The British motorcycle industry is never boring that's for sure I hope this brings more sunshine and refreshment to us all. Exciting new times for Norton! I hope!!

TVS have not bought any land or buildings as part of the purchase, there is no land or buildings to sell and recoup as the assets bought only include a license to use the current manufacturing site for 6 months.

Metro will get more £ back when they eventually sell the buildings and land.

Hopefully the pensioners and suppliers will get some money back after this second sale,
