Can anybody shed some light on where my bike was despatched to.

The Norton Despatch Records (UK) show my bike was sent to Corbetts and the colour was blue in a fastback. Its a 1971 750 Commando.

I thought they only painted from the factory for the UK market, Green and Red for the Fastback in that year.

Could Corbetts be a US dealership. I think they had Blue Fastbacks that year in the USA.

My Frame number starts 150 This particular bike has no engine number either so it must have been a replacement engine. The giveaway is its first rego was may 1990. From the DVLA (United Kingdom)
So maybe it was imported back from the USA

Any Info greatly appreciated

Steve

I think this has been mentioned before so I don't think it's correct.

Bikes for the US market would normally have been sent to the US importer (Berliner for the East Coast market and I believe Norton Villiers Corporation for West coast) not directly to dealers.

Corbetts Motorcycles
Weyhill Road,
Andover
Tel 2991

From the 1974 Dealers and Distributors book.

As it was so close to the factory it may have had an odd life or a employee sale.

To then be first registered or re-registered in 1990 it may have been an export sale to a US serviceman and then gone to the US and then been reimported to UK later. This is speculation of course so it is just one possibility but the UK vehicle records were regularly purged as computer storage was expensive so matching it to an old registration had and has its problems.

There is a MCN photo taken in 70 / 71? showing a blue bike on a show stand. Hard to tell if metallic, does not look metal flake, or flat blue. Looks nice though.
