Spoke to a friend who paid a deposite 17 months ago,He received a phone call before christmas saying His bike is now ready for the assembly line, bleedin heck 17 months :!: and is READY for the assembly line...worse to come Norton have asked him for more money, Goe's without saying he is not a happy chap :twisted: Looks like Bad news, he either stumps up more cash or the bike gets put on hold,,,,Thats a real bastards trick :!: :!:

Those terms are stated in the purchase agreement clearly enough on the order form. Didn't he know that?
 
Probably just a display piece as the fram is not yet painted and I really don't think the frame is painted after assembly. another tell is that there are no tires on the rims.

Announced a year previously at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show, the eventual unveiling a year later and every one of the 50 production cars had been pre-sold to customers placing a £15,000 deposit for the £87,000 machine.( Thought it was 50 % Deposit .Anyway , they started this trend , Deposits funding production )

I hope it was a prota type!, That frame looks like it was made at a local engineering school :!: The sudden top tube/oil tank size change at the rear looks rubbish,and check out the rear loop tubes connection to the top tube, looks like a very rushed hap- hazard affair to me.

hey compared to some of the home made jobs i've seen around here that thing looks fantastic ! :shock:
 
Mike, I am on about the top section, the front down tubes, swing arm area look OK, Its the oil tank and upper rear that [for me] looks poor. Ok it's all hid under the tank/seat. The oil tank is very much like a vincent UFM. Boxing in a big tube with sheet steel is very "Home" made to me. But i do like Ducati's :oops:

I thought the new Norton lump was a horizontally split affair with a wet sump? i believe the top tube boxing is cosmetic and not functional as an oil reservoir.

I think so, Paul. If you recall, Kenny's last prototype used the same sort of frame gusset oil tank, so unless the design has been significantly changed, it's probably stil the same. Also, it looks like there is a filler neck on the top of the main tube.

Sorry to pop up like this but...

I am a journalist investigating the current state of affairs at Norton, a developing story notable largely for its absence from the pages of the UK bike press. This goes beyond customers with money down still awaiting the goods, although there are still plenty of those out there.
