I pretty sure that there are at least 2 different outer covers where the major difference is the location of the boss where the cable enters. I am sure that I read the post, but can't find it. If any of you can point me to that post I'd appreciate your indulgence and efforts.

This centers around a '71 that is about finished. When I went to check the fit of the cable I found that it would hit the oil tank, when I tried other routings I didn't like the bends.

Best.

The (threaded) rear cable entry location is pre-Commando.

As far as I know there are different cable boss in AMC gearboxes when used in AJS/Matchless machines.
Dominator ones could have been different too but not sure about this.

What's a transmission?
It's part of a numbers matched 1971 Commando.

I sincerely appreciate the replies, LAB hit the nail on the head; the cover that came with my customers basket case was for a pre Commando AMC g/b.

So the sweat and blood have dried, but now the tears may begin...

Best.

Buyers remorse, I always have it but been lucky it works out in the end!! Oh yea I also get seller remorse! LOL

I used to get Buyers Remorse just about every time I pulled my credit card out of its' holster. Now when I find something for one of my mechanical pets I scour the web looking for the best price on a part/system of equal quality from the same craftsman/manufacturer; spend the money in my head, feel the remorse and it a day or so remorse is gone, and I still have the option of not making the purchase. Now I buy, no remorse...

Best.
