Trade value of my Norton

I posted a couple of weeks ago about finding out what the value of my bike might be however, did not have any pictures. I was thinking about trading it for a summer toy on craigslist in Michigan. I have a couple vintage bikes and really have little interest in doing another. I finally have a few pictures that many of you asked for. Once again it is a 850cc commando 1975. I do not have the tank or the side covers and do not have the title. The original owner is looking into getting one however, no promisses by him. Please let me know if someone can come up with a estimated value. I know I can part it out for more then its worth but would rather see someone ride and enjoy it.
Thanks,
John

I am still looking for a value. Anyone can offer something for the bike. Is $4000 really a good price?

No, the previous owner said it ran before he started taking it apart 10 years ago but who knows. The guy I bought it from lost his house and just didn't want to store the bike anymore. He dropped off the tank and panels 8 years ago to a paint shop and never picked them up. Most of everthing looks like it there. It's in good shape for sitting in a garage for 10years very little rust as you can see

Since there is no oil tank on it and the wiring looks to have been tampered with, I would say no, it doesn't run.

From the information we can gather from the pictures, I would think that 4K is a pretty good price to get for it .
I don't think that I personally would give you that much for it.

It is definitely not something someone is going to get on and ride home. It's going to take some work (and some money)
to get it on the road.

Take a look and see if the frame is dented where the "highway pegs" are clamped to it. bummer if it is.

If someone offered me $4k for that bike (w/o title) I'd take that money so fast...

Here's an Oxymoron for ya. The less you spend, the more it's going to cost you.
For goodness sake, don't start off so much on the hole.
$4000 maybe if you live next door. $2000 otherwise.

That free basket case going around could cost most of all......Assuming we're going to make runners of these.

A realistic look at E-bay lately I believe would show that a 75 Norton is this shape would bring at least 4k and probably more. Not much rust, most parts, and the market is hot right now. Unless there is something wrong in the engine, it will sell. I hate to say this, as I would love to get a bargain, but I would put it on E-Bay with a 4k reserve. My guess is it would go for about 5k. By the time you try to part it out, I'm not sure you would do much better.

I don't want it parted out. I want to see the bike when someone finishes it. I don't need the money. I will sell it to someone for $3000 right now if you are going to fix it.

I'd say 5K would be fair if it had the tank, sidecovers and title. Without? That 4k sounds like a nice offer. Were the barrels on the Mk3 ever painted silver or has somebody had this bike apart? No telling what the inside looks like.

Russ

I've never seen a 75 with silver barrels before (that doesn't mean much coming from me though)
The primary screws are missing, someone has been into that.
handlebar risers
somebody has wrenched on it (or attempted to) in the past.

ain't those 1974 pipes?

does the motor turn over when kicked?

If I had that bike, and no sentimental attachment, and was offered $4,000 - I would tear their arm off and smile all the way to the bank, just my 2c

Your assessment of the value of the bike is probably accurate. The market, right now has a different view. 3 months ago I saw a 75 go for 4200 and it was more rust than bike.

We have to face facts. The available supply of "restorable" Nortons is shrinking, and the demand is growing.

Boy am I glad I got mine when I did.

I just let it go for $2500 to a guy from this site. He is going to put it back together. If he wants to he can tell you who he is. I told you I didn't need the money and I want to see it finished. If it doesn't go through I will let everyone know.
Thanks for all of your comments.
John
