We are getting almost the same then. Is this with the aftermarket map ?
Tony, I have the decat, open short silencers and factory remap. I put my iridium plugs in but can't say I noticed any difference.

I had a good sporty, enthusiastic blatt around the lanes yesterday, 78 miles, quite heavy handed on the throttle at times, top speed 90mph but mostly around the 65-70mph. I just did a measured fill up with our standard 95RON unleaded. I got between 6.25litre and 6.35litre in tank to bring it back up to the brim.

Quick calcs...
6.25L = 1.375Imp Gal = 56.73 mpg(UK) or = 1.651 US Gal = 47.244 mpg(US)
6.35L = 1.397Imp Gal = 55.8 mpg(UK) or 1.6775 US Gal = 46.49 mpg (US)

I presume that a steady run I would get better mpg but for the life of me I doubt I will ever have a steady run on the 961 :)
 
That's good mpg . Steady running is no fun . I will keep checking mine but I think we are getting close to the same. If you rode it gently and limited your top speed to say 65 mph you will go well beyond 50 mpg US .

What MPG are you getting with the Thruxton R ?

Those seat cushions are very effective brilliant for long rides

The padding on the Norton 961 seat is thin. Probably to keep the seat height lower ? I swear after long ride I am feelin the seat pan in my (whatever those bones are called ) bottom .

The ischial tuberosity (or tuberosity of the ischium, tuber ischiadicum), also known informally as the sit bones, or as a pair the sitting bones is a large swelling posteriorly on the superior ramus of the ischium. It marks the lateral boundary of the pelvic outlet.

I have been out putting more miles on the 2013 CR since the rebuild and can say that it was well worth it. With my loud custom shorties, it is a beast, makes it presence known, I had a car I was following slow and pull over to let me by. The low speed running around 2500rpm does not have any snatch, it is quite smooth. Full acceleration brings out the hooligan, it is fun & amazing. Idle is a little erratic and nice not to hear the thrashing mechanical noises that was dominant before.

I am not sure if Tony's bike has any symptoms that bothers him, but knowing what I know now from being inside the engine, it certainly is a peace of mind step. I guarantee, that taking the extra effort to get in and blueprint and balance, maybe change out some bearings, it will bring that peace of mind and confidence that all is right in there. There is little cost in terms of parts and it just comes down to spending the time to do the rebuild. I am pleased I did. Also rest assured that once your bike is out of warranty, don't expect Norton UK to be there - they don't take kindly to us home hacks trying to put things right.
