So the end of my rebuild is in sight (or so I think) on my '74 850. Things are coming together, tank and fenders and such are out for paint, getting the wiring along, etc, etc. To my knowledge, the only parts I need to order are rearsets. I put it off for a long time because I didn't need them right away. Now I need them and I can't find them. I really wanted the clubman rearsets but they won't have any for "weeks" and I think I can have my bike wrapped up by then. I like the clubman setup because I can reuse the brake switch, and maybe I'm just ignorant about other brands, if so please enlighten me.

So I need help. Where else can I find rearsets? I've been over ebay several times, doesn't look like old britts has anything in stock.

Also, I would like to mention that I have a set of brand new tarozzi rearsets I bought for another project but ended up not using. I'm seriously considering making them work, but I really had my heart set on the clubman style.

I know everybody likes pics, so here are two. These were taken a few weeks ago and I'm much further along now, maybe updated pictures by Monday?

Thoughts Please.

There were some HYDE rear sets on Ebay here in Australia. Not sure if they are still there though?

Cheers Richard

There's a set of rearsets on eBay right now...exact set of Clubmans I have on my Combat:

Approximately 2 days left....current bid is $99.00....there is a reserve & the "Buy it Now" price is $350.00...that's just a tad more than I paid for mine. IMHO....buy now....or keep waiting.

$350 is high for a used set, but if you can't get 'em new...

Actually a brand new, unused set, Paul. Two days left in the auction.....price has jumped to $295.00 since I first saw it this morning at $99.00....9 total bids.

This set is for an OIF Triumph. The plate that mounts the left (brake) bracket is different from the set I have. It probably could be made to work, but I don't think it is a bolt on proposition.

Thanks for all the info guys. My options are somewhat limited so I'll probably be getting the set on ebay.

Ron L - I realize they're not the exact ones I want, but there should be a lot less to modify than fitting my tarozzi rear sets, so I'm gonna jump on it. I'll definitely be able to make something work.

Now if I can just get my paint guy to get on with it. I guess its something that shouldn't be rushed though.

Thanks again guys,
Ben

That Gus Khun set looks identical in details to what was ebay sold me as John Tinkle set I paid ~$200 6 yr ago.
Straight bolt on for straight rear brake cable run, directly bolted to the Z plates via holes for Norotn pronghorn stalks. The flat-ish rubbers got destroyed and don't know where to look for more, thought seems regular round kind might slide on the squarish peg. Barelycorn supplies Al version to lots of the racers.

Read that auction description carefully - to make them work on a Commando, I think you'll need the brake adjuster plate from another auction? His BIN on that auction is 50 pounds. So, the 85 + 50 + 29 (minimum shipping) will put the proud total at 164 pounds; $270 more or less. Shipping could be more if he sticks to his guns and asks for a separate charge for the adjuster plate.

Commando Specialties' unit is $270 before shipping, but they note a 15-day wait for re-stocking. Since it probably takes a couple weeks to get here from across the pond, that's a wash?

The plus is it's vintage Gus Kuhn, and that's gotta be worth something; the minus is it looks like it will need a re-plate & some serious polishing to look 'right'.

Tempting, though.

Windy (aka "bill" on this Forum) mounted the Clubman rearsets (my first post) on my bike in less than 1/2 hour. He elilminated the plate, since the tension of the brake footrest bolt keeps it snugged up to the bike anyway. We installed one of the modular in-line brake cable / brake light switches from Old Brits. No problems for over 2 years now. The footrest bolts on both sides had to be drilled out to a larger size...no big deal.
