Perhaps the best thing that Thiel sell is their oil filler cap tool.

A brilliant thing.

Should be compulsory !
Ollie gave me one with my exhaust. That's is if I ever get my exhaust. US Customes in New York has had them for a week. Must be the so called government shutdown.

Well, I got a parcel from Thiel Motorsport today...

REALLY impressed!

Typical bloody Germans, nearly as bad as the bloody Japanese. Excellent fabrication, fit and finish all round.

They look perfect, very reminiscent of the old peashooters from the ‘70s. They are a little longer than the Norton shorties, but much shorter and more slender than the horrid stock long silencers.

They sound gorgeous. I think they are slightly quieter than the shorties, but have a nicer, deeper sound. I put this down the the fact that they have a straight through perforated absorption tube and high quality packing, whereas the shorties have a kinda baffle thing going on.

Sadly, bad weather (snow here in Oxford) has prevented any road testing.

Anyway, here’s some pics:

One point of note is that the brake hose P clamp, located under the swinging arm, needed turning 180 degrees on my bike as the new silencers are more tucked in, the left hand one would have fouled the clip:

When fitting them beware the silencers are a nice tight fit, unlike the “prick in a bucket” standard fit:

Who could argue that they don’t look bloody fabulous? Not even Clive I suspect:

Beautiful , this is exactly what Norton needs is some aftermarket support . I think you doubled your lean angle with those slender mufflers ! Hey what about the pesky chain to muffler clearance ? Or clearance to the swingarm spools ? Can you give us a shot coming in from the back ? A nice dyno run now FE for the record books ???

The parts could languish there for weeks or months. You may have to contact them directly , if UPS call the 1800 number . They want their (money) customs fees !!

I must be doing something wrong Tony cos I never touched down the old pipes!

Will check out the spool clearence and report back, I don’t think they’ll fit tho.

I will be putting mine on the dyno later this year, need some more miles on it first tho!

The chain clearence looks good to me. It’s kinda difficult to get in there and take a meaningful photo, the last one below is my best attempt.

The paddock stand bobbins are as per the standard pipes ie, fit them in the workshop, remove them before riding.

Rear end view shots below.

They just look ‘right’ from every angle IMHO...

(Apologies for not sweeping the workshop floor...)

Thanks ! Would you say a solid 1/2 in. gap between chain and muffler ? OR more even ?

More. Even when pressing down on the chain and pulling it towards the silencer.

Your chain would have to be utterly shagged before it could touch IMHO.

But if you’re still worried, talk to Ollie about his 2:1, order it with a left hand silencer, job done!

I’m still interested to see what Ollie comes up with regarding his 2:1. But it’s gotta be pretty awesome to look or sound better than these !

Those are beautiful silencers!
Nothing like dual peashooter exhaust.

Now that is music to my ears.
This I have to see.

This is the closest thing that I see on the Thiel site to a 2-into-1 system for the 961.
Dunno, but I would like to see it if they have one.
Perhaps they have a new system they haven't published to their site?

Wondering if they would pair up to the SBN X pipes angles. Can't stop looking at them.
Hi Britfan , Does your SBN system use the original Norton Head Pipes ? Or does it use all SBN parts including the head pipes like Brttwit ?

Tony,
Actually, when I said I had the full SBN system with headers, I must have been on drugs.
The SBN full system is the de-catted X-Pipe and silencers.
I'll try to confine my use of recreational drugs to non-forum posting periods.

What Fred said. Stock headers. SBN X and silencers. I, on the other hand, am not on drugs. I have 2 sets of silencers. Generation I and II. I liked the I a little better.
