The top four most despised leaders of the world

Hitter fell into exactly the same ‘trap’ as Napoleon.

He thought he was conquering huge swaths of land whilst his pathetic foe retreated in a full panic.

Actually, the Russians used space as a tactic, they knew they had land and people to spare. They knew the weather was going to be on their side. The Germans massively over extended their lines of communication and then the Russians threw overwhelming numbers of men (read casualties) at them.

Hardly glamorous or chivalrous or merciful... but effective.
very true. from what I have read. the T34 was probably the deciding factor. excellent tank with fearless men inside.

think you need to reread history. we were sending anything and everything we couldn't afford. including hurricanes and spitfires. never mind. im sure Hollywood will change that bit of british history soon too

Notice I said "thanks in part". As far as rereading history, I based that on what I read in Churchill's four books covering the war years. A great deal of US aid and material that was destined for the UK was diverted to Russia. Churchill didn't like it much, but he and Roosevelt agreed that Stalin needed it more.

until 7th dec 1941. none of it was aid. while france, germany and japan got on with rebuilding. we were still paying you back for that "aid"

i'll have my say then I wont say another word. we wouldn't have won without the usa. that's a given. but we paid you for the privilege of keeping you out of the war. once we were defeated. do you really imagine you wouldn't have been next? god knows how long you'd have taken if the Japanese hadn't been so stupid. grateful for your help. but you didn't save the world. you helped save it.

That's true, sometimes it doesn't pay to win. Ever see a movie called The Mouse That Roared? Peter Sellers at his best.

I come across sometimes as anti American. nothing could be further from the truth. I love you people. (in general) ;) but I will always argue the British corner. I imagine you can understand that.

did you know? white cliffs of Dover was written by an American? There are no blue birds in England.

No argument at all on my part. England stood alone for 2 years and kept the nazis at bay while the US hid behind two oceans and hoped for a decent outcome. That is part of the reason, I think, why since 1945 we have been so eager to involve ourselves in conflicts we don't really have a stake in. " Plenty good money to be made supplying the army with the tools of the trade". As a point of interest though, on Dec 7th my father was on a troop ship waiting to ship out for Iceland. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940 and as part of the whole lend lease/aid deal the US garrisoned Iceland to give air cover to UK bound convoys, freeing up British troops to go to North Africa.

like I said. without you we'd still be fighting. An awful lot of Americans signed up with the British in 39, 40. My maternal grandfather and both his brothers were paras. All three were killed at Arnhem. Unfortunately, no private Ryan this side of the pond. we couldn't spare the men. Not a criticism. Just a fact of life. Probably why I get my hackles up so quick lol

Except the blue tit. Come to think of it, I've see a pair of two of them on a mammal..........blue ones I mean.

Gallic pride did the frogs in, and they also didn't have the leadership necessary to cope with the new situation. You can't place blame on their solders or equipment because they and it were quite up to snuff.

hats off and a big thankyou to your father Mike
I'll tell him so! At 98 he's still pretty sharp. I know that his father was from Germany, and his mother was first generation American from German parents. Can't get him to say much about his father, but my brother has letters written to his mother by the relatives back in Germany dated 1938. They owned a leather goods factory, and the nazis simply took it from them. His reasons for joining may have been more personal than out of a sense of duty, but he did it just the same.

I agree, Danny. But, Trump is not through yet. Now with an acquittal of the senate trial, Trump will become more brazen than ever.
If the Democrats can take a couple of Senate seats from Trump loyalists (any Republican, it seems) he could be tossed out on his ear, so if that happens, you'll see a marked change in his behavior if not his demeanor.

blimey, there were still americans asking to sign up for the Falklands!
I worked with a guy who had been in the Reserves for 20 years. When Bush I invaded Kuwait/Iraq, he was so excited he nearly pissed himself. To quote, "I finally get a chance to legally kill someone."
