The Lambda Delete Thread

So mine are finally in,straightforward job, plugged them in under tank,I left the sensors in the exhausts ,taped up the end connectors, I always thought my bike did run ok, apart from when I had the lambda sensors played up which were replaced under warranty ,I got the odd cough & splutter, when at low revs & slow moving traffic. Not any more ,smoothed it right out , 2016 bike with short stubbies on & decat pipe,so all good & I’m quite surprised at the difference it makes ,whilst doing the job I investigated my lob sided tank that just occurred in the last week, the left had support has broken clean off the craddle that holds the ign coil & battery,I think this may be a one off I hope, as I have carried excessive weight in my tank bag for most of the 15,000 Miles the bike has done, excessive means a 2 kg padlock & toolkit & muchmore possibly up to 10kg , so I guess this has helped put a strain on the bracket, however I’ll inform Norton central next week to bring it to their attention ,not to moan but keep them in loop of this occurrence .I’ll start another thread on how I’m going to fix it, wedged some padding between airbox & tank atm , so just to recap , these resistor s to link out the lambda sensors really do make the bike run better .

Good Report Richard. I talked to David Coote about the coils hanger tank bracket. He thought then that this is a weak point and will break. So maybe Norton have designed one that is better. Yours can be welded or brazed for sure and with some thought can be improved as well ?

I can also say that I have tested my fuel mileage extensively and am pleased to report that I am happy with it. In fact if a O2 sensor goes bad it hurts the fuel mileage not help it !
From my 2000 mile trip : in US miles per gallon with iphone gps tested mph
64 to 68 mph = 53.5 mpg
70 to 75 mph = 43.5 mpg
80 to 85 mph = 45.5 mpg

Yes , that's right folks , It's gets better at 80 to 85 then 70 to 75 !! And that's full load side bags , tank bag , tail pack and geared up . Who said a Norton 961 ain't a touring bike ?

Thanks, guys, I'll look again when I have the tank off, but I thought I looked pretty carefully last night. The wires from the lambda sensors feed into the main wire harness at the front of the fuel tank, which appears to be wrapped in tape all the way back to the ECU. So it looks to me like replacing the sensors would require some serious surgery on the wiring harness. But I could have missed something, and will look again.

Hard to see in there, better look again.

Did you use the resistor plugs as per the ebay listing?

I also had a lop sided tank but when I checked mine the two bolts at the front had come loose and almost lost to the road. I have had the tank off a few times and have been reluctant to tighten these bolts in case I stripped them, so no doubt was my fault, glad I checked in time.

Yes Mark, I used the one s from the eBay link, whipping the tank of again Tom to repair the coil/ battery cradle.

Chaps, has anyone clarified the position lamba sensor delete on Euro 4 bikes?

My bike is so issue free, I’m loath to experiment and risk incuring fault codes etc!

Yeah, chicken, I know!

So, has anyone less chicken than me tried it yet?

How do we know it’s not broke?

Don’t know how amazingly good it might be when ‘fixed’...!

I just remember what happened to Dyklusens when he tried it on his Euro 4 . He ended up with a check engine light on not running well.

Had a conversation about this with Olivia at the factory last Friday - suggest you talk to her first then use it as an excuse to buy a misfiring Aprilia to avoid wasting your money.

Warning - after I put this idea forward for board approval an alternative fitment location was suggested....

OUCH!

Sorry I don't follow , What was it she said ?

As with most of these discussions confusion arises from the various combinations of ECUs and sensors fitted and recommendations should only be taken if you know for certain that it applies to your particular bike setup. Such was the rush to buy these bypass plugs which were of benefit to certain bikes but I was told that the latest Euro 4 spec machines are working perfectly well with the current Lambda sensors (occasional failure aside) and so the bypass connectors are at best useless.

Olivia is very technically proficient and helpful, and has a lot of experience of the various issues and rectifications. As a potential long term owner at some point my bike will be outside warranty so I need to understand what is likely to fail and the symptoms - so it is always interesting to talk to the techs in the service department.

OK while I had the fuel tank off to retorque the head bolts, I installed the Aprilla O2 sensor deletes. Ended up with two parts orders from AF1/Norton for various improvements. End result the bike was on the lift for a month. Could have finished sooner but when you live in an area with a rainy season you ride on dry days fix when it rains. I was concerned when I got the scoot put back together after being idle for a month. The bike fired up and idled better than ever before even after a month. Still running the stock SC ECU map and stock Norton exhaust but the bike has never run better. Recontacting Theil Motorsports to order short exhaust. Then to AF1 for race map. I'm excited about this bike again.

I suppose you will be getting the SC 077 map from 0116 . This is what I am running now. If our SC ECU fails someday its on to Euro3 Omex and corresponding map . Or if lcrken get the SCDelta sorted out :)

It seems that most of you guys are running GOOD . Time to give em the cane boys .

Finally got them on. Took a bit for the ECU to learn, a little hard starting, but ran well. Did 85 miles, seems ok. Still idled at 1500 when hot though.
