Tach Repair

Give A E Pople a ring, his email may be down, he did a really good job on a speedo and tacho for a B44 for me. He used to make to oddbal specs for smiths if the volume was too low for them to setup production eg the anti clockwise 2:1 T120 tacho for 64 and 65.

A second vote for Nisonger in NY. They supplied parts for my TR3A Speedo and just recently rebuilt the tach on my Mk3 Commando. All the major repair places charge in the $160-180 range for a rebuild. Nisonger's strength is their attention to their time quotes; they quoted 4 weeks and beat it by a week. The tach came back like new. Nisonger is a large, serious shop with an enormous inventory. You'll never wait for a part.

Take a picture of your tach before sending it to Nisonger. Yes they were quick but my tach came back with a red needle and they said that was the way it was received! Had to argue like crazy and then I found a picture of my tach. Then they said it was not the same tach. They did make it right but only after a lot of yelling which I don't normally do.

Apparently, they seem to be Smith specialists. Mine are Veglia's.

No I did not (yet). In the meantime, I bought a John Player cable that is a little bit longer (an inch or so) as I realised that at the tacho, there was a too sharp bend. I moved the head light more to the front of the fairing so there's more place for the cable now but I still have to mount the cable itself. Untill now, I use a Sigma bicycle tacho that is very accurate. I'll mount the new cable soon - as soon as the mileage matches the tacho mileage minus 30000 Km...

@Lucky: I'm sure you're right but as I wrote one year ago, I try to keep the original looks as much as possible.

Btw, I take the opportunity to post a picture, taken yesterday at the old race track of Gédinne in Belgium: the Production Racer next to another famous classic bike. So different but imbued with the same spirit of times.

Make sure cable hasn't separated due too over extension. Mine was doing the same thing and found the lower sleeve had separated slightly under the metal sheathing!
