When the MoT brake efficiency test was introduced some years ago my MoT tester at that time didn't have the expensive roller brake test equipment* so used the alternative hand winch with a pull gauge that required each axle weight to be taken in order to calculate efficiency of the brake.

I remember my Mk3 Roadster certainly didn't weigh close to the "book" figure even allowing for some inaccuracy of the scales that I believe had to be checked for accuracy.


*For our non-UK members who might not know what the UK MoT brake test involves (although 40-year-old 'Historic' tax class vehicles are now mainly exempt from the MoT test}.
