Sweet Aluminum Barrels!

I’ve got some on the shelf. Quality of machining etc is exactly what I’d expect from Molnar… superb.

They look stock at a glance, rather more elegant than the Dunstal / Maney pattern…

Same opinion as you Nigel about the quality of those barrels: superb !

Re: the superb bolt kit, I've been told by Andy that I had to purchase it with the barrels. Don't remember the reason why...Mine will be fit on a set of standard MK3 cases.

Top deck has 5 x 3/8"-20 BSF and 2 x 5/16"-26 CEI threaded holes for head bolts and studs. This has caused some raised eyebrows, to put it mildly.

Bolts supplied in the kit are CNC cut, not rolled, and appears to be on the loose side in the threaded holes (a tolerance issue). I wasn't very pleased with them. One of the bolts supplied had an erroneous cut and was replaced FOC.

When testing against mass-produced black BSF bolts with rolled threads, I found the fit to be much better.

Buyers are urged to check their barrels and bolts for fit. I don't remember how the 5/16" studs matched their respective threaded holes.

The two latest batches has had threaded holes for 067561 studs lengthened.

I've discussed with Jim Schmidt about the need to provide better bolts for the barrel. He may be inclined to do so, as the barrels are becoming popular.

I have the Molnar barrels on a 750 Norton engine. Documented the install briefly in the P11 forum.

I bought but did not use much of the TGA bolt kit.

I used JSM reduced shank through bolts and what I could out of an existing CNW bolt kit.

If you have CNW head and barrel stainless bolt kits, you'll end up with a bag of stainless bolts you won't use.

I used the four 3/8x20 TGA bolts provided that go next to the plugs. The pair of 5/16" studs up front of the head fit alright, but I used a set of CNW 5/16 studs.

The 3 studs that come down from the head part way through the barrels are difficult to get started. I did not use the TGA studs or nuts there either, since my studs are CNW with a different thread into the head and the TGA nuts are long and a battle to get started. I used standard CNW stainless 3/8 nuts on the CNW studs rather than the longer sleeve nuts typically used. Reminds me maybe I should check to see if they are about to fall off. :)

The 4 TGA sharp threaded bolts were required for me to assemble the engine. Those 4 and the center stud are the only TGA bolts out of the kit I ended up using. I did have to retorque the head at around 50 miles, but it all seems to be working well enough after a couple hundred more miles. No leaks anywhere. Engine won't see much action until late spring 2024 when the sun returns.

There's an alloy 850 jug set on offer at a local Norton specialist for about $900 CAD...New old stock.
Is that a decent price?
