Anyone have good pics of their 73 or above tail light. I’m trying to figure out if I need the t shaped bracket. I can’t quite figure it out. I see it in the parts manual but not sure where to place it or I may have mismatched parts. The bottom of my main piece (License plate and lamp plate ) has nuts welded on bottom at rear to attach directly to fender

Whether or not this bracket is the original or a new/used piece it has major influence on how the fender/tire present. If the bracket isn't considered with the tire the rear view can look out of alignment enough to hurt the eye.

With the three forward fasteners(2, 1/4 and 1, 5/16), plus the two that secure the plate that the 5/16 bolt upper forward goes through a tad loose than snug mount the tail light/directional bracket; this involves 2, 1/4 (that fasten to the welded nuts) and 2, 5/16 one of which fastens to a specialized nut. Mount the saddle clamp with the rubber strip, install the 2, 1/4 fasteners and snug them up. Now step back and check to see how the center of the fender aligns with the center of the tire; they usually don't, you could get lucky. You can move the saddle clamp port or starboard and if that centers the fender/tire have a libation. The other consideration is to check for a twist in the fender, if none pour another. If you fender exhibits a twist start bending. Also keep the angle that the directionals in mind, you want it to be perpendicular to the vertical axis of the tire/fender; the ears that the directionals mount to can also be bent as needed, but be aware that the effort needed to square the directionals can work against you in the tire/fender department; tweak one a bit, tweak the other; bit by bit until both square up.
