Strange thing to do to a California innit ??

Yep, pass on the pipes... but the motogadget gauge, buttons, indicators etc are rather nice.

The grey is a mistake and the bars are now somewhere between sport and cafe so defo not a California

The pipes look hand made or Domi type with mufflers and no x-over.

What is Category N? Maybe it went down and bits were replaced with its current hardware. I don't thing it looks bad. Whatever floats yer boat.

Cat N insurance write off, repairable but cost exceeds value... maybe that explains the missing clocks, bars, exhaust and the grey paint (covering an acre of filler?), don't see how that all adds up to a write off of £16k+ though even given the high cost of those replacement parts.

The "Trade book price" is probably around 10k to retail" @12 1/2k. Insurance companies replace damaged parts with new, so a set of Pipes, Tank, Tail Piece, Clocks, Bars, Footrests, Indicators and maybe a scratched primary and add collection and labour and you are over 50% of the "trade" value and an automatic write off. A bit of effort and a few "Chinese Ebay bits" and you're back on the road like this one but hard to sell, why would you buy a write off when you can buy New/Nearly new for not much more ? My mate had a 4 year ElectraGlide written off in April with a damaged TourPak( 1800 quid for a top box, REALLY!!!), Pannier, rear fender and Silencer and a couple of other minor bits totaling 6 grand in parts and nearly 2 grand in labour on a 14 grand bike.

He bought it cheap, tarted it up and wants top dollar. The Cat N label is with it until it gets scrapped and affects the value every time it changes hands including this sale. I note its another classified ad and not an auction so no protection from ebay.

Indeed, these bikes are not easy to sell second hand, as a few of us have discovered recently.
Selling one with a cat N label is going to add to the challenge considerably IMHO.
And that’s being VERY polite about it...

The new Norton is not my cup of tea though they have great styling, looks, & performance. What this guy has done, regardless of the 'N', in all honesty makes me want to weep. He's taken away too much of what made it interesting…. I know it's only small things, but.....

Ebay don't offer any buyer protection on any Motors, Classified or otherwise. The Consumer Rights Act says the purchase is between Seller and Buyer not the Auctioneer. Any Ebay Buyer protections are purely for goods purchased via PayPal and at Ebays discretion. Caveat Emptor

True story. They don't even have to honor the selling price, or sell to the winning bidder. Back in late '16 I initiated a purchase agreement on a Ural auction using "Buy-it-now" and the dealer sold it out from under me later that day as they had someone come into the dealership wanting to buy it. There's no legally binding agreement on an auction purchase on a vehicle (or real estate), unlike on the rest of ebay.

I'd sure love to have a Zundapp with sidecar though..... I'd never dream of anything again, except for maybe: a Rudge, Vincent, Bonnie, Spit, PaK 40, Ju 88, etc. and.....

Ah....what us 'muricans call a salvage title. Coolest scam ever!! Total the bike, cosmetics only, but a 20K bike back from the insurance co. for 1200 bucks. Gotta love that. I missed the boat.

Agree with you mate cannot see how the parts he has replaced amount to the total value of the bike
