Squeaking clutch

Hello Clive , That is great news. Maybe others experiencing a "squawk" should follow your advice. The only thing I would ask is can you explain the "filled in the splines" and the other work you did with the spacer. I can also vouch for the EBC clutch plates both steel and friction plates . The EBC part numbers may not be well known they are :

EBC Spring Set : CSK126
EBC Friction Plate Set : CK2255
EBC Complete Clutch Set (Steel Plates , Friction Plates , Springs) : SRK51
Are these a upgrade over oem?

Yup - as far as I understand they have no cork in them. As well as making a noise like a startled guillemot the original clutch snatched on take-up.

From another thread about my failed output sprocket tab washer the picture below shows the splined shaft that the clutch basket bearing sits on with the re-made spacer which is pushed up against the bearing you can see there. There is basically not enough parallel shaft for the basket bearing to ride on so you can see where it is polishing the top of the splines and wearing them. I turned a collar the same inside and outside diameter of the splined max/min diameters including the ramp profile then milled slices from the ring to fill in the splines under the bearing.

That is some awesome machining work there ! A picture of that finished spacer you made would have been a photo for the ages.

Ta - thanks to my Myford super 7 and bca jig borer/milling machine

Clive, I have re-read this several times and finally think my little brain has clicked into gear I think(with a screech). You made a new spacer with the same dimensions as the original, and then separately you machined 5 or 6 "filler" segments from another collar which fit into the splines and create a complete round shaft under the clutch. Is that correct?

@Clive, I've got my primary apart at the moment, and was wondering if you'd be able to knock up another set of those spline infills (for want of a better description). I'd happily pay you.

Cheers,

cliffa.

Cheers,

cliffa.I to had this clutch squeal when moving off, stripped and cleaned clutch and the thrust bearings and push rods, still noisey when moving off. Replaced clutch plates (fibre) still the same. Although the clutch basket bearings felt ok decided to replace at a cost £17 that has done the trick, just been for a ride and all seems ok. 2016 sport 9500 miles and going well.
