I bought a two set of ss spokes for stock 19 rim with early 69 front and rear drum brake.
40 spokes have short bend, the other 40 long.
Please, could you explain me where go long and short?
Thank you.
Piero

Spokes go inside and outside of the hub flange............ requiring different angles... which may change lengths, depending on supplier

Lucky its not a MK3 disc front set because there will or should be 4 different spoke types............. took me 2 days to suss it out with different threads disc side and gauges (dia) and non disc side FFS..

Each rims requires 20 short and 20 long eg inside and outside of hub...............

The spokes with more bend to the outside (starting at the inner side, passing though the hole to the outside then out to the rim) of the hub, those with less to the inside.
Of course you need to lace in the correct order to avoid 2 steps forward and 1 step back. :D

As I remember, it's not the angle that's different so much as the length of the short bend. One size goes on the inside and one size on the outside of the hub. Trial fitting will tell you which. Also, if the angle is not sharp enough, you will end up with spokes that bend towards the outside, even when tightened. Make sure the bend is sharp enough to insert into the wheel end without bending the long part of the spoke in order to insert it into the wheel end.

All of mine appeared the same, but when I laced the rear wheel I ended up with curved spokes and Mike at Walridge told me just to bend the angle of the small end more. Worked like a champ.

Hi,
Thank you.
If i mean all the 20 spokes with the more bend go on the timing side, 10 in and 10 outer?.
Or 10 to the outside timing side and 10 to the outside drive sude?
The same for the front hub?
Ciao
Piero

On your drum brake model, all the spokes that mount from the inside of the hub will be the same. All the spokes that mount on the outside of the hub are the same. Front and rear are the same for drum brakes. Make sure the angle of the bend does not result in curved spokes when installed, bend the angle if needed. Be careful not to install spokes reversed, it can be done and will work but looks wrong. I think the Royal Enfield laces their spokes reversed from the Norton.

Picture updated.
Yes, all the spokes with more bend on the outside of the hub, 10 drive side, 10 timing side, both front and rear rims as they are the same on the drum brake hubs.
Make sure you use the anti seize supplied, stainless steel spokes with stainless steel nipples can gall / seize.
