Thats how I see most done and me too after seeing how best to route
the cables, but its personal choice other than that, even if came
form factory the way you have em now.
Yeah thanks guys, I thought I had it right.
I relly more on the tacho not the speedo
I was just wondering because I have bought a new speedo cable finally, the bastard is about 12mm too short!
It does fit but it is a tight stretch on the cable and my speedo clock is not registering! the speedo did work befor I broke the last cable and the speedo gearbox is almost new.
I may need to try and re-route the cable.
Does anyone please have any cable routing diagrams???
The fit up into the speed clock is critical for function and wear damage.
There aren't any route graphics, just have to fit it with least strains
and abrasion and fouling and support where able and looks like it
should be, but leave free after it passes the tack armor cable.
Issue I'm not completely settled on is the angle of the dangle at
the rear speedo drive.
Ok, I actually asked other list for details on routing of Everything
as expected from factory.
I run mine from rear drive, aimed slightly down ward, then
forward inside of and tied to frame tube between engine and tube then
upward between the frame and front iso mount to cross
at angle up to the LH of stem and into the clock.
I have at times tie to the tach cable, but not higher up or binds
with fork motion more.
Rotate the speedo drive unit at the rear so that is hangs at the very bottom, even at 5 on a clock giving you more cable.
Obviously then put the speedo on the right if there is enough tach to go to the left. ???
Just puzzling about this on The titanic. I like the choke on the left and the power take-off socket is on the left under the ignition switch. Also prefer the turnsignal switch on the left. With the Mk III running gear (speedo drive on the driveside) it just makes sense to keep the clocks on the same side as their drives, but with the right speedo drive (drum brake) the cable seems a bit short. Should it go over the front frame crossbar?
I keep my clocks about 7.25" (185mm) apart, measured on center, so the cables are just inside the headlamp ears for a cleaner look.
Here's a pic of the cable heading up toward the left side, after following the right frame lower from the drive. It just touches the timing chest and passes right over the RH iso bolt head. Over the front frame crossbar, for sure, yes.
