Speed

Ok Clive, now you have just rocketed up the chart in my estimations...

My SS50 was a 5 speed red (or orange) tarmac shredding chick magnet.

Well, I thought so at the time.

Mine was a Red one too. I once got stopped by Plod who didn't believe it was a Moped and made to swivel the complicated footrest/pedal set up and ride it using the Pedals. I must have looked a complete Dick, and with hindsight, that's exactly why he did it :p

Yup they used to do that to make sure that you hadn't disconnected the pedals! That would have been a major breach of road safety and well worth spending time to enforce.

As I was running on nitro and turned the carb round so it faced forward with a home turned (I was using Dad's lathe since ten years old) RAM intake I needed the strength of a four speed box to handle the power. If you thought your red one was a babe magnet you should have seen my metallic blue one make them swoon. On second thoughts it was probably the nitromethanol fumes........

I was my own Babe Magnet so the SS50 was a bonus to the Ladies, but I lent my personal Magnet to a mate in 1976 and as with Tools and Money etc !!!! :(

My SS50 was like new when I sold it to a mate at a bargain price to get him going.

I’d spent a fortune on genuine Honda parts, even the stickers seemed to cost an arm and a leg at the time.

Within 6 months he’d crashed it and chopped it (yes you read that correctly) and shortly afterwards he scrapped it.
