Agreed , This vent IS NEEDED , whether you leak yet or not . My bike developed the under starter oil puddle within the first 200 miles . Its been Leak free ever since the Vent . But Frankly I've been saying this all along and some took the advice and some didn't . So lets move on to gearing changes , hand grips and throttle wheelies ... And what tires to run for sport touring , emphasis on touring for me. We have a lot of long straight roads out here. Thanks.
 
Hmmm, my bike just came back today and the rocker covers look the same i.e. The vent hoses are still there. Haven't traced where everything goes yet but will do so tomorrow.

Could they just be capped off ? I see you have the oil/air separator box now. Does this oil separator go directly to the air box now ? Also , you should have gotten a anti-wet sumping valve put into the oil feed line.

Just had a quick peak, the vent is directly connected to the vent on the other cylinder - is this how it was anyway? Or have they either not fitted or not been supplied with the new rocker covers. Might be a good time for Simon to chip in with a factory response.
 
Yes, sure would be.
I'm about to take my 961 in for the breather mod.
Would be nice to know exactly how it works, and how it is different from the original setup.
 
Hello Iwilson , It has been brought to my attention that future oil in air box fixes may not get the New Rocker Cover . The cost may be too high for Norton. It would be nice if they offered the Banjo-less rocker at an additional cost ? So , those who got the new rocker cover , they were first in line I suppose and lucky them... Either way , If Norton did offer the Banjo-less rocker cover at an additional cost I would opt for it. I think it would look better without the banjos and hoses . I have also not received a response about the seat I saw on MCN's review of the MK2 Commando 961. You know the seat with the Norton logo sewn in at the rear ? I appreciate your quick response and feedback. I hope Simon responds , I am not the enemy !

Cold crappy weather is constant since I've picked it up. Nothing to report, Tony. Going to Fla. next week, so it'll be a while.
 
Since I'm pretty much back in action, I treated myself to some new mirrors. Rizomas. The Gold stem goes great with the pin striping and the Ohlins and the back is faux carbon fiber. Goes great with the fender. (In my humble opinion of course)

Before it's picked up it would be most convenient if MCC could perform the installation IF it is needed. But without having ridden the bike I have no way to know how bad it is.
 
Hello Contours , Call Bob in service at MCC and ask him if he can put in a claim for you about the oil in box fix. If that does not work out , then see if there is a kit available for order . Either way call asap and ask..
 
Since I finally got someone interested in transporting my Sport, I called Bob at MCC to make sure everything was good to go. I specifically asked about the transmission vent installation and whether or not there was any evidence of oil in the airbox during the Dyno break-in. He could not remember anything about the vent (after all the bike was worked on last January) but he did mention that they checked the airbox and found no oil. So I guess she's ready! I will call again before the pickup and ask somebody to look for the transmission vent. Peter, the sales guy, is no longer working there so there is no one there who'd remember it. :roll:

Definitely get that vent installed asap , it will prevent pressure oil leaks and weeping.

I know how important it is. I made sure Peter knew as well. I can't say whether he knew about the nice plug that came in the package, though. They probably didn't know what it was for.
 
Guess when I posted this originally, it was wishful thinking. I think we finally got it right. Norton sent me a new starter. So THAT'S what a good starter sounds like? Beautiful. I knew for 2 years my starter was crap. A loud "whack" or a slip is not a good thing. This new one, press the button and "brooooom", smooth as silk. Not a mechanical sound at all. AND........NO EFFING OIL LEAKS. Bet it was the starter the whole time. Well, they practically rebuilt my bike, so who's complaining? Thank you Stephen Green. I may finally be out of your hair. You have been most helpful and concerned, a real gentleman on the phone. I'm back in love with my Sport. Thank you Gold Coast, had the work done in 1 day. Customer service has gone from gut wrenching to stellar. I've been wracking up the mileage, smiling every inch of the way.
