Hello!

I am going on vacation with my Commando this thursday.

Does anybody know which sockets are for:

rotor nut

clutch fixing nut and

stator nuts?

I don`t know it right now and don`t want to open the primary to check it…..but want to have the right sockets with me for the trip.

Thanks!
chris

sorry no english native speaker here..... :D

but as you mentioned.....sounds funny.....just visisted a internet dictionary....

I would like to know from you the tool-, wrench-, box spanner-size [Maul- oder Steckschlüsselgröße...] for the rotor nut, clutch fixing nut and stator nuts.

You will need a 3/4 AF to remove the primary case. And if you are need to go further to remove the clutch, well you will need a clutch spring compressor. I just take a good selection of what we call shifters, or adjustable wrenchs for emergency roadside repairs.
best of Luck, Richard

According to the manual, the rotor nut hexagon size is: 1/2" Whitworth (0.920", 23.37mm).
The stator nuts are, I think, 1/2" AF.

And as sure as eggs are eggs, if you take a full workshop for the engine, you'll have a flat tyre.
So take something for the wheels. !

Don't get carried away with tools, its a vacation remember..

If you are going to take tools for changing a tyre, don't forget a hand pump like I did. I haven't yet had a flat on a big trip though.

thanks for the answers!

my intention to ask this question is:

I reduce the tools which I am taking with me to a minimum.
so when I did season start inspection I wrote down all the wrench and allen key sizes I used.
Now I got a tiny toolbag and only thing I don`t know is the wrench sizes of the nuts I asked.
Don`t want to open the primary to find out the right wrench sizes......just lazy!

I torque my clutch fixing nut with 40 lb/ft to prevent shearing the circlip behind the clutch.
I secure the nut only with loctite. Was always ok, but one time it came loose....you know: once bitten, twice shy!

......and no, i don`t like the tab washer.....the material of the washers the most sell is so soft that the nut always comes a bit loose....doesn`t come loose further....but it`s loose!

on longer trips I always got a clutch compressor with me.....just peace of mind! and for sure i will do a serious amount of miles in the next week. :D

Best tool for vacation;

Smart Phone; AccessNorton forum for help. For Norton help only, not for staying in touch with the office.

Better yet, look in the forum for folks along you route and have phone number plugged in. I will put my number out there for anyone lost enough to travel through LA (Lower Albama)

Good tip, Chuck!

Perhaps we should get a member's phone directory going?

I'll bet Jerry could work up something thru the Forum. On my Masonic Lodge website, we have a hidden phone directory accessible by a code known only to Lodge members.....something like that might work.

Also, it does not have to be a roadside emergency, I''m sure most of us would enjoy having forum members stop in for a chat.
