I've seen a number of various makers common to my MK3 and others that replace the veneer Diodes. Tympanum and another that escapes me at the moment. They newer shunt style nippindenso units have become a staple on newer bikes and retrofitted to many modern Triumphs and Ducatis. Is there any reason not to use a modern unit and go with the British staple so often sold on fleabay?

I'm running an Old Brits Power Arc I believe with the 2 map option that they sell. I'd like to ditch the old regulator before it's a problem or a diode goes south. I'm already going over a number of smalls getting ready for the season. Once my cam is checked I want to be one the road again and don't want this regulator issue to pop up this summer! Thanks for the input and advice. Cheers KC

They will operate the same. The original zener diodes are shunt regulators also. The advantage might be in less connections and wiring with the parts compacted into one place. Jim

Thanks DogT, this was the article I thought I read but lost track last year and never saw Jeans additional 775 unit. I guess I should order 3! On for the Norton and two for the Hinkley Triumphs. I never had an issue with the oem but read quite a bit of stuff about them on triumph rat, which is where I learned about these newer units.

I'm going to follow Jeans lead, what a great guy to post up this info. This is a great place with good folk!

I installed the Polaris 775 r/r that Jean recommended and love it. Every time I look down and see that nice green light shining that says my battery is charged I am
thankful for his research.
I have not put my bike on a charger since I installed the 775 last October. My Yuasa lead-acid is 3 years old, and I used to have to charge it every few days.

Done deal! I ordered the regulator from the Polaris site listed on other pages, the best deal still. Also ordered a plug kit from Beaver and headlight harness as well. I really like the relays they use. Very nice and small. Just waiting on the postman and hoping UPS doesn't carry as they break and smash every day package I get. They have broken 2 engines I've bought over the past few years. I like to support Union companies but they have lost my business forever.
