I put a DVD between 2 pieces of cardboard, taped it up and it weighs 1.5oz so the PO wants $14 to ship it to OZ. Is there a better way? I've got about 3.5GB of data I'd like to send to fireflake and that's 1/3 of my monthly data usage on my ISP. I don't think I can do large emails over several MB either. I looked into zipping the photos, but they don't seem to zip at all. Ideas? I could probably just put it in an envelope and hope for the best? I'd think a letter would be reasonable, no?

@DogT are you sending him the same DVD you let me borrow? If so, I burned a copy and could send it to him. I have unlimited gigabit speed internet.

Wrecks, no, he wanted all my pictures. I've got about 2.2GB or more of pics on my HD that he would like to have. Plus all my notes I've gleaned through the years as .txt files. It may be worth the $14 just to send the DVD at this point.

Thumb drive would be like sending a DVD; dropbox or on line stuff is still problematic because I have data bandwidth limits. I'd still have to upload them. If I did that I may as well send him emails.

You getting anything done wecks?

You may get a nice price break if you use the USPS Media Mail service. I gather that the CD is for educational purposes.

I used to belong to a DVD rental club through the mail, and I used to work at the Post Office. These things are pretty resilient. I would just put it in an Xmas card and envelope with appropriate postage. Should be the same as a standard letter.

Any free WiFi nearby, library or Starbucks? Might take a few days though.

I will second the recommendation for the US Post Office's Media Mail rate. It covers books, magazines, CDs, DVDs & VHS tapes. The rates are very low. Another option would be a "cloud" based file storage/sharing site like DropBox, which is free. Cloud based services require both the sender and receiver to have Internet access.

I'll look into the media mail or just a letter. Otherwise I could send it to wrecks who may be willing to send it on with his unlimited data.
