I have imported 2 bikes into Western Australia from the U.S.
All of the shipping arrangements were done by myself using a local importer. Well actually he did most of the paper work. I just filled out the forms and paid him for it.
I would let your buyer make the arrangements. All you can do is assist in getting the bike onto a truck to get it to California ready for a trip by sea to Malaysia. You will have to fill out a bit of paperwork for the export of the bike out of the U.S and that is about it.
Make sure you give him a bill of sale with yours and the buyers name as well as the bike particulars. It might make licencing in Malaysia difficult without it. Proof that the bike has not been stolen.
Good luck.
I didn't say a bill of sale will get the bike out of the country. It is to register it in a new country. It is merely proof that you have legally acquired the bike. You still need the title etc to get it out of the country. There are some non title states in the U.S were titles were not issued to bikes - pre '85 ( ish. can't remember exact date). Connecticut springs to mind but California defineately require a title.
I had a bill of sale on one of my bikes but it made no mention of my name. Only due to the fact that I had a stack of other paperwork was I able to register it here but they were not very happy about doing it. I had to use my charms.
I have shipped one bike to Austria, one to New Zealand, 2 to Australia, 3 to Canada, and 3 to England, NONE with titles, all Bill Of Sale only. All were 60s and 70s road bikes.
(2 of the 3 to Canada, and 1 to England were in parts in large crates)
Just the one of the two that went to Australia was a problem, but only because the shipping agent from Australia was a rip-off.
They were all Texas Bill of Sale from me to the international buyers. All cleared the federal stolen vehicle search. Two to England and one to Australia in the last 12 months.
