Hello all, I dumped my bike (2016 961 Mk II) on a hill yesterday and broke the shift pedal linkage rod, as well as the brake lever. Also broke the plastic seat base attachment. Does anyone know if these parts exist on other manufacturer bikes? Thanks so much for your help, Ken

Sorry to hear that. are you ok?

The linkage rod is quite easy to fabricate, but what exactly broke on the gear lever and the seat base ? Unfortunately I don't think any of those parts are used elsewhere.

You are probably best to contact Ollie Thiel here info@thiel-motorsport.de

Hope this helps,

cliffa.

thx very much, yea I am ok. Just a careless moment at slow speed cornering on a hill. The linkage rod broke at the junction between the rod and threaded portion so I agree it should be easy to fabricate. The plastic seat base where the captive nut insert is held is broken off. Thanks for Ollie's info, I will try there.

Glad you’re ok. That is a common problem with the later seats. The early ones had a metal plate inside, but the later ones as you know are just plastic. What broke on the brake lever?

The linkage rod probably did you a favour - those things usually break on their own where the thread begins. And at the most inconvenient moment. Search this forum and you will se how others (+me) made replacements. If the plastic seat base is the same as my '17 CR then yes those have all the resilience of a KitKat and again can be improved. Hopefully brake lever was just that - again there are discussions on the forum of standard aftermarket levers same as other bikes with similar Brembo kit.

ok good, I will search the forum for the linkage rod fix. I did do some research on the brake lever, on which just the tip broke off, but haven't found anything just yet. waiting to hear from Ollie Thiel motorsports regarding the seat. thx for the suggestions.

yes the plastic tabs are pretty weak. The brake lever broke off right at the tip. hopefully can find a similar one used by ducati 1098.

You can get aftermarket brake and clutch handles. Some nice stuff too. Aprilia uses many of the same models. I had a list of comparable ones but unfortunately I didn't back everything up before I had a hard drive crash.

I used ASV and posted pics and the p/n . Do a search .

Hi, I'm gonna start a new thread soon about a conversion to the seat fixing. The two bolt lash up is useless - the plastic lugs in the base can't take the stress. So, my post is coming soon ... don't worry, there is a sensible solution.

Pretty slick setup.
Just what the 961 needs.

That's impressive. Looking forward to seeing how that was done.

Yea

Looks good - based on Corbin mount?

Hi, saw yr question ... I didn't realise Corbin made a seat Latch Mod for 961. I built this from scratch in my workshop. I hope I aint infringin any pattents? The only bit I needed to buy was the latch itself, that came from a Benelli 125, sourced from a bike breaker on Fleabay. Can you tell me where the Corbin Kit is and I'll have a look.

Hi K110linde, I will post a thread about my seat fixing Mod, soon. This will solve your seat problem. But I see yer troubles were the result of a low speed spill - was this because of the ridiculous turning circle of the 961 Sport? When I got mine it reminded me of my '93 Duke 900SS - which was real tricky at low speed manoeuvring. Back to the 961, I also discovered that the lock to lock wasn't the same left to right because the frame tabs hadn't been welded evenly each side. I don't know why Norton hadn't cut the lock-stops back, are they all like this? So, I've done mine and now have a decent (and even) headstock movement and the yoke (tripletree) doesn't get near the tank on full lock. I had to take a bit more out of one side and I've attached a pic showing how much I removed. But I understand, this job aint for the feint hearted! However, the back up is that if too much is removed, a plug or rivet can be inserted into the stop to build it up again. But don't just take my word for it if yer not sure. Go see a moto mechanic to advise if its possible for your bike. Jon

They don’t, I think @robs ss just wondered if you’d used a latch from one, but as you say I’m sure there are plenty others which could be adapted.
