Shaftleitner Gearbox Information

I have come by a Shaftleitner 5 speed gearbox, all be it in dismantled condition. I've cleaned and reassembled the gear clusters, bearings, shafts and selectors and all seems well. I believe, after listening to the late Colin Sealy that the internals should fit into the standard AMC cases with the standard selector mechanism apart from the 5 speed cam plate.
If anyone has any information, exploded diagrams, technical information I'd be grateful for a look.

The Schaftleitner 5-speed fits into the AMC main shell, but requires an extension shell on the far side. Do you have this shell? Otherwise the gear cluster will not be of any use. There was a gear cluster for the AMC road bikes and a close ratio cluster for racing (7R/G50). I have a review which appeared in "The Motorcycle" sometime in 1966 which I can send you. The gearbox I have, I believe, is the racing version as the outer case is not an AMC item and has no provision for a kickstart. The inner case has a ball bearing where the shaft would normally be supported by the bushing in the kickstart shaft the outside of the ball race has an aluminium blanking plug. I'm replacing all the bearings in the casings before I reasemble the box. It's taken me quite a while to dissolve the residue of Castrol R the cases are covered in. The internals are definitely Shaftleitner as they're fitted with the split needle rollers and not the one of Sealy's copies. I'll try to post a few pictures if I can figure out how to.
I forgot to mention, I have fairly extensive machining facilities so providing I know what's required I can usually make it myself.

What are you putting this box in out of interest ?

A Domiracer Lowboy replica. Frame built by Terry Meads is copied from an unfinished works frame. I forget who made the replica tanks. Correct 18" wheels using Manx hubs. I haven't decided which of my engines I'm going to use yet but both are nominally 500's. One is a modified standard 88 the other a short stroke with a one piece offset crank.

I have some notes on the Shaftleitner gearbox which I have posted previously on the Norton Manx F/B site. I have my friend's 6 speed Shaftleitner box here, and some notes provided to him by the maker (Michael Shaftleitner). Theer was both a wide (erequiring a spacer and a narrow version). These boxes were first used I believe by Rudi Thalhammer in 1961.
