setting float levels

I was trying to set the fuel levels on a pair of premiers using a pair of AN tool 13.1688. These work very well. To make it easy I eliminated the short crossover fuel tube. This makes each one independent of the other. I made two fuel lines with single banjos so I can drop the float bowl without disturbing the other side. Things went much quicker. Is it possible that with the fuel crossover tube in place the fuel levels would try to match each other? And, is the crossover really necessary?

I don't think so as each float works independently.

And, is the crossover really necessary?
For normal riding?
Not entirely necessary but it isn't possible to feed both carbs from one tap (so both are fed from 'main' or both from 'reserve') without it.
With two reserve taps and no crossover then there'd be no reserve without two Off-Main-Reserve taps.

If the two float bowls are connected, the float levels would never be correct. If one fuel level is higher than the other it would close the fuel feed to the other. When you lean for a corner, one carb is higher than the other because of their distance apart,

I always turn both taps on when riding. It seems to flow fuel better.

They’re only connected at the feed banjos. The float valves are between the banjo and the float chamber.
