Sell my 961???

Bob,

Does the DomiRacer even have US DOT Certification?
Might have a problem getting it registered over here.

Who is selling it? Did you contact an owner overseas?

I would because it IS a cool bike, although for me, the Sport suits my tastes better. If I were in your shoes and wanted it bad enough, I'd score the Domiracer first and then sell your current bike if you can, just in case the deal falls through. Hey...even for investment purposes. Since it was such a limited run, I'd say that's money in the bank.

Fred, good question. I thought there were Domiracers already in the US. My family spent time in the UK ( military assignment ) and we have life long friends there, we have visited them and they have come here. They contacted me, they can only hold the bike a couple of weeks for me. If there are none in the US I will have to look into all the laws. Remember all the trouble I had registering the 961 in CT!
Also according to the distributer my 961 was the first registered in the US, maybe I should keep it for that alone!

Wow. Its like impossible to get shipping quotes online. I've visited about 20 sites and all require you to contact them. I've also ran across a few forum that mentioned up to roughly 2200 bucks for a Vincent Comet. One site quoted to L.A. for 975 pounds by air and 561 pounds by sea. The forms to fill out of course do not have Norton listed on them. Good luck! By the way, don't forget the 20% VAT.

It's an interesting opportunity, but the cost - ouch!
One thing's for sure, when you take it out for a ride, you'll never pass another on the road.
I think the uniqueness alone will make it a sound investment.

Hey, and it eliminates the plastic gas tank issue too, with a slick alloy number.

Keep us up to date on what develops.

don't forget the 20% VAT

VAT does not apply to exported goods, if the exporter is VAT registered they claim the VAT they paid when purchasing the bike when the export invoice is raised on their next VAT return. The only VAT that may be paid is on the internal logistics portion of the shipping e.g. the road bit from seller to port plus storage fees on UK soil (you can't export these bits). If the exporter is not VAT registered then any VAT they were charged is not reclaimable on export, so if they paid VAT they cannot claim it back, so best to buy it off the last VAT registered company in the chain. If they will need to be EORI registered for exporting but this is a simple step but ask anyway. If they are not then they will have a few extra hoops to go through to get the VAT back.

The one I saw was mind blowing, fantastic, but it had straight through, beautifully welded race pipes on it and I stood behind it when it started up, so it was ear blowing as well as mind blowing, I thought if I stand here too long my ears will bleed. Wonderful piece of machinery, but not exactly conforming to the bland, synthetic, environmentally correct world of today. I think all were all sold in the first week and are resold on ebay for phenomenal prices, so Norton could have sold them for a lot more than they did.
I know you are worrying about transport and taxes, but I would check that you can get it on the road in your State in the US because I know that many find getting 2-strokes on the road impossible in the US. Its as far from an electric bike as you can get. Ultimate old-school.

Hello Engie , Those Domi prices are nothing short of stunning . How much were they new ? I seem to remember low 30's Pounds ?

£26,000. The first few may have been less, £20,000 but they all sold out in a week as a limited production run. Second hand ones have been on e-bay for £46,000, which is double your money in a year. Unfortunately that's why some people must have bought them. They are not really a ride to work machine or a 'pop down the mall' bike, more a Ferrari GTO thing.

I seem to remember they were 24k UKP for the track bike and 26k to make it road going. I was at Donington for my 961's service about three weeks after the Domiracer was launched, they had a photo shoot going on there with a mock up of the Dommie and I was told I'd have to be quick if I wanted one as there were only two left. To be honest I still think the 961 Sport is the bollox :D

BP

You only live once. Get the Domi and make us all jealous (even though most will not admit to the jealously, but I will)

John

I heard the Domiracers are not street legal, but can they become so without much work?
Also, with the new street legal Domiracers coming out hopefully next year for less money, couldn't you possibly end up having both?

At least that's what's going on in my dreams right now...
I LOVE the Domiracer but I don't think I could give up my SF for it. Like giving up a child in order to have another one...

RIght now Norton is basically testing the global market. If we buy enough Commandos, they may produce more Domis to compete. After all, we're still waiting on that Trumpet, aren't we?
