interested in a passenger strap for my bike has 74 (I think) square top stock seat. anyone sell the strap?

I got a universal one off ebay, check the length required as the one I got was the longest and had no surplus.

commando...I see the ebay straps they are 27" long and from UK for about $10.. I measured I need about 24" how did you attach yours, please

I already had inserts and tool for leather belts for 8mms steel hole liners and then used 5\16 bolts to the pan.

Norton Villiers eliminated seat straps after the ‘72 range except for fastbacksinfavor of a grab rail behind the seat.. If you want one on a ‘74 check if there are threaded bolt holes on the bottom of the seat pan.

no threaded holes but a flat spot on each side of bottom that look like where holes would go

Alan wish I had known you were looking for a strap , I saved my original , it will fit as you have discribed , hanging in work room in basement in nice shape .... let me know if you want it , same price as headsteady .... imagine shipping will be much less

Just went down and had a look mounting bolts are with it and all the contrast stitching is intact , don’t think it ever spent a night outside .... can’t believe it still hanging there ... we moved here in 2002 and I hung it up to save for unknown reasons ...

You may need to remove the seat cover and foam to add a nut (glue or braze) on the inside of the seat pan. The bolts go through the hole you will need to drill in the pan and connect to the nut on the other side. The flats are an artifact of the press tool on your '74. Assume the hole and nut were not added by this time of production. Still you can fit it with some work.

You might find a bodyshop the could install rivnuts for you, you wont have to remove the foam and all.....takes about five minutes....

You can buy pliers which look similar to Pop-Rivet pliers and operate on the same principle, but you'd probably struggle on anything over about 8mm (steel) by hand I would say. however that method is brilliant and should pull any size. They are also known as Nutserts I think and you can also get them in steel, alloy and countersunk version, although you wouldn't need that for the seat strap.

Cheers,

cliffa.

I will go to post office in the morning and send you photo of mailing cost Alan .... prolly take a little longer to get to you given the Season , glad to hear the Sun is shining !!!!
