Sarolea leads electric motorbike charge. . .

My ftiend has raced electrics for several years, first with Brammo and now Zero. Harley is slated to market their electric next year and there are others coming. If Sarolea is leading the “charge” (appropriate pun) they are leading from behind.

At the Indy MotoGP several years ago, the factory prototype 400-volt electrics were hitting 170 on the front straight. As soon as they get proper range, it’s over for gasoline engines.

Which is much more likely for cars than bikes but still leaves you with the issue that a battery weighs the same full or empty. Being able to do 170 is fine but how long can it do 170, Formula E is like watching fairground dodgems.

Nothing but chain and tire noise, so not as entertaining as the note of an open exhaust for sure, especially for us old farts. My friend commented that for the first time in his 50-year racing career, he could hear the P A announcer as he circulated the track. Harley’s Livewire is engineered with a gear drive that makes some motor noise on purpose. All they lack is range. I doubt anyone but a racer notices much difference in a full tank or a nearly empty one unless it’s one of those 9-gallon ADV monstrosities.

And nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines run on electric motors, so it’s only a matter of time before something is devised to give electrics almost unlimited range. Tick, tick, tick......

Yes there is-it’s called a solar panel –but a whacking big sail on a two wheeled bike is just what you need to frighten yourself in a cross wind, never mind doing 50mph!

Also the electric power vehicles will never catch on due to the lack of refuelling power points:(

How about a pea-sized chunk of fuel in a small fusion reactor? You have to think in terms of what may be possible or man would still be trying to fly with feathers.

If it were easy or could be done with what exists currently it would never happen, as you prognosticate with the PV panel.

The Vintagent site ( Paul DeOrleans) is full of cutting edge E-bikes .... if you read the piece bout riding the pair of SS100’s in Nevada and shutting them down to coast side by each down a mountain , he does make a case for the E- bikes .... while I do find them of interest ... this dog is way past giving up the sound , vibes etc. of my beloved ICE’s in all vehicle types ...
