Hi all
I have purchased several "packing" aledegely for fuel tank packing. As a general guide
At the tank rear what thicknes (before compression) packing should I be looking to fit..

Do you mean the pad that goes under the tank? A long time ago I got one from Old Britts but it was like memory foam and just compresses. Next time I might try something like neoprene but I’m interested in what other people are using.

Standard 06.2567 'thick' pad. It has become slightly compressed so needs to be more than 3/4".

I use TWO of those thick foam blocks, one in front of the other, then the specified thinner one in the front. Lasting much longer.

One thin pad at front one thicker pad at rear , think that is stock padding for my bike , for a second I thought OP was shipping a tank somewhere ...haha!

Interesting thread and timely for me . I expect my Roadster tank back from paint shortly and will have to install the thick & thin pads that I purchased from RGM . I neglected to measure their locations in the tank saddle . Can someone offer up their locations ?
Thanks - RT

Flip-flops from the dollar store make great pads for the tank. Color matching too and hard to wear out. You don't want those wings in the front bearing any weight/pressure. They will break. The wings are just there to stabilize it. There was a thread on this not long ago. You just have to figure out how many you need near the front and the rear, it's not magic, just a matter of playing. I used silicone to glue them in place. I even cut the donuts for the wing studs out of the flip-flops, my old ones were too hard.

With regard to the rubber mounting washers for the Roadster tank, can I ask.
The AN pictorial shows 12 rubbers at the front & 12 at the rear (5 above and 1 below at each mounting point). So why does their tank mounting kit 13.1776 only show 16 rubbers.???

Andover calls for 8 rubber washers and 2 metal fender washers for 72 750 Roadster . These must be for the front - 4 per side . The rear has a metal strap with a rubber pad where it crosses under the frame backbone.

When I converted my roadster to a fastback, the tank pads had to be much thicker. I made them using strips of inner tube glued together on top of each other. They've done a perfect job for over 10 years now! I didn't add thickness to the old pads in case I decide to return the bike to Roadster configuration some day (very unlikely).

My ‘72 Roadster with GF tank has the 4 rubber washers on each front stud not sure bout type of washers , the thin pad is at front on main tube thicker one at rear , tank is held down at back by big o-ring around main tube looped onto bosses on tank end , think it as manual shows for my particular version of ‘72 Roadster ....

I used this stuff: foam sheets
Not sure if it helps the OP in the UK though. With 1/4" thickness you can layer it to whatever thickness you need. I used it to raise my tank a bit to clear a new headsteady.

The grey one up front is from what came with my Shorai battery.

So on the front mounting... is this four rubbers between the tank and the support arm with no rubber below.... or three rubbers between tank and support arm with one rubber below
On something that is rubber mounted seems bizarre to have the large washers fitted below with nothing between the support arms

I use the exhaust rubber mounts screwed into the tank with a single rubber washer under the steel washer. Depending on the tank I have put an extra rubber washer with the exhaust rubber mount to lift the tank a fraction. With the rubber washer under the steel washer I can drop the nyloc nut I used to use and use a plain nut which does not come undo.
