Got my Sport remapped today at 3090 miles. Upgraded from #77. Cold and hot start is superb! No gas, no stalling, hardly even has to turn over. Instant starts. LOVE THAT. No surging all. The idle has improved greatly. When the bike was hot, not due to weather, but after a good pounding, she would surge, sometimes idle at 22-2400 rpm. That was annoying as all get out. I ran up to 115 mph a few times for a minute and cruised close to 80 all day long. The worst was idle at 1400 until she caught her breath. Right back down to 1150. Acceleration was very torquey and smooth. The bike felt "eager"...like a young horse on a cold day. She just wanted to run. Now the "not so great" news (which aint horrible either). You know that quirky little vibe from 4300-4700rpm? Still there, just not as rough. Its also at 3800, and 5200. Its a little buzzy. Can feel it in the foot pegs. Again, not as rough as before, but more spots. Overall, it could have been better, but I am really satisfied with the starting, idling and surging issues. Starting was not horrible before. Most of the time it stayed, but semi warm, it stalled. Had to rev it. Now have 4100 miles. :D

Addendum: Like to throw a shout out to my dealership, Gold Coast Motorsports. Its under fairly new ownership and I'm seeing vast improvements to the overall attitude of the service dept. and management. I'm now dealing with Curtis (same as my name, brother from another mother) who genuinely cares and communicates. I couldn't make my appt. due to stormy weather last week, so Curtis calls me a few days later and asks if I'd like to come in. That little gesture meant the world to me. Took pictures of my crankcase oil leak, told me he'll get right on the horn with Donnington. I was getting tired of being ignored. This guy is on the ball. East coasters, give Curtis a kind word when you stop in.

Curtis, great to hear. I wish my bike would coldstart like that. Mine takes 2 or 3 tries sometimes. It sounds like you are describing my "revvier" comment when I reported on my 91 re-map! Anyway my bike also runs great once started!

BPH. I always thought it was #91 but Curtis said it was 90. Maybe he was mistaken, but, good upgrade to say the least.

90 and 91 were released together, just for slightly different apps. I requested 91!

That's darn good news because I'm sure I'll be talking to them in the Spring! :D

Curtis,

Your 961 has a decatted crossover pipe and Dominator silencers, so GC should have installed map #90 for you.
Sounds like you're lovin' it though, so it's all good!
I'm going to install my Iridium plugs tomorrow to see if they improve the slight cold start issue I still have.
Anyway, map #90 is definitely a big improvement across the entire RPM range. :D

What is difference between the two maps? I thought Norton only had 2 maps: 1 for the standard muffler and one for the free-flow silencers.

I have the shortie Motad silencers. I am pretty sure the cats were left in.

Norton has 7 new maps now by my count. This includes Domiracer maps. If you have Motad shorties and cats I would say you need #91 but some would say 90, they are both similar!

The Commando 961 (Sport, SE, SF, Cafe Racer) has only 2 maps that should ever be installed.

Norton P/N 6500076 = Completely standard exhaust system in road legal form as it comes from the factory

Norton P/N 6500077 = Long or short after market open silencers, with stock catalytic converters or with De-Cat option (off-road use only)

Please ensure you have the correct maps, as we cannot guarantee the correct function of any other combination of map / exhaust.

Simon, what are these #90 and #91 that people are using actually intended for then?

Norton dealers in the US have been 're-mapping' 76 & 77 as well as stock maps to 90 & 91 for almost a year now! They are also delivering new bikes with 90 & 91 Simon ?????

These are usually for South Bay DS or DT pipes mostly without cats and sometimes Motad shorties.

Frankly, the #77 remap didn't improve anything from the stock mapping. It actually took the dealership over 6 months to receive the software from Norton and an additional month to receive what I was told, was the cord used for the mapping since I purchased my bike early in 2014. The bike was difficult cold starting, warm starting, had funky vibrations with #77. #90....well, read my review. If Norton doesn't use it, they should. Vast improvement.

My bike has never idled lower than 1300rpm. Not complaining . The mid-range is impressive , stronger than my 1997 Trident 900. Norton Motad Short/Loud , No Cats , # 6500091 R1 Tune .

Tony,
Did you mean that you had the 91 tune installed?

I had the #90 map installed on my 961, SBN exhaust and de-catted crossover pipe.
The bike actually starts immediately now, and will idle reliably after 15 20 seconds of throttle.
No flat spots in power curve, and the acceleration is now worthy of the name Commando.

Previously, had #77 map installed. It was slightly better than the stock map, but still had poor cold starting, and idling, as well as a minor flat spot from 3500-4500 RPM when cold. Overall feel was still a bit agricultural.
The 90 map made a tremendous difference in bringing the bike' s performance closer to what most owners would describe as the modern EFI bike experience.

Hello Brit Twit , Yes , I had the 91 tune installed this summer. I just thought I would chime in again to give others some insight.

My guess would be for off road, competition use only.
Like the caveat adorning all aftermarket exhaust systems pronounces - not legal for road use.
Environmental regulators would approve!

OK After reading this I am completely confused

People I trust for information are saying 90 and 91 remaps are the best thing since oral sex. Donnington Hall says 76 and 77 are the only maps to use Then where in the f*ck did 90 and 91 come from

I guess I am pulling my CPU's out of both bikes to send to Gold Coast

And you are running decatted (or catted) Motad shorties if I remember correctly. Did the Chicago shop do this for you. And do they have a stock bike to do remaps if I sent my CPU's to them?
