I remember someone needing a set of rearsets lately and I just saw that the seller known as Bikepender1 or something like that has what look like a unused or "new" set of Dunstall ones on Ebay. The item # is 2607 8667 0813 with a buy it now price in British pounds of $360.00 I have talked to this seller once about a year ago & if I'm not mistaking him for someone else I think he said he was going to try to start reproducing "new" Dunstall rearsets. I wonder if these are real "new old stock" or a set he made? They look nice and come with the plate needed to mount the brake pedal using the stock "Z" plates. Well just thought I would mention it in case the person was still looking. Glenn.

That sets bidding ended Friday night and I was beaten out in the closing moments even though the bid was quite high. Suspiciously I was contacted 2 days later that the set was offered to me @ my kast bid price. Can't seem to help feeling that there was some ''shenanigans afoot'' driving the price higher,.

ya sounds like the guy was bidding the item higher, but you can check that out in the bidding history if you want.

gtsun - I was looking for rear sets a few weeks ago. I ended up getting a set off ebay. They were clubman rear sets for a triumph, but I didn't have too much trouble making them work for my '74. Also turned out that the guy who was selling them lives relatively nearby and restored an MK3 a couple years ago. Did a dang fine job of it too. So, I don't know if I'm the one you were thinking about, but if so, thanks!

Carry on,

Ben

As much as we dis Flea Bay I wonder how many times I have been bidding against other members on this site!

Too many, a few of my own that I know about. BTW I sold my 84 Kawasaki LTD 1100 to a guy in Tupelo.

I knew those would work for you...same ones I have on my bike. Very solid, sharp design...much better looking than the Dunstall sets with the big mounting plates IMO.

I have done a few deals (finned valve covers, finned points cover, finned instrument cups and a finned rear brake plate that are all very nicely done) with "Bikepender", he is an Aussie (I think) living in the Philipines. I would bet that those rearsets were new, made by him and I will also bet that they are very nice. As far as the price getting "shilled up" I do not know.

I've got an unused set of Norman Hyde rearsets for a Mk3 850 that'll go on ebay one day. If anyone is interested make me an offer.

cmessenk - Yes you were definitely right. They look great, but more importantly they work great. The shift side was pretty straight forward, just had to bush out the shift shaft on the tranny. The brake side I ended up getting some steel flat bar about 3/16" thk and bent an offset in it, then welded that to the bar on the rear set. I had a brand new barnett brake cable that I ended up shortening, so it was just a matter of connecting in the middle. I don't have any good pictures at the moment, but I imagine you can get the idea.

Thanks again!

Ben

Ben,

It's a good idea to get an extra clevis pin & clip for the rod assembly...a real pain when you lose one 50 miles from home. Yes, you can imagine how I know this. I got 2 extras from Commando Specialties for a couple of bucks and keep them in my tool pouch. On the other hand, a couple of zip-ties will work in a pinch....never go anywhere without 'em.

Also, I used one of the integrated brake cable / brake switch units from Old Brits....the next size up from their shortest model. I know a lot of folks don't like them and think they're prone to problems, but the one I have has worked perfectly....no "squishy" brake feeling as some have reported. If you go to the "Anything else Motorcycle Related" threads and look at the 4th picture down in the "Vintage Cafe Racer Show" thread I posted, you can see how the integrated brake assembly looks with your type of rearsets.

Yes Ben (brly) I think it was your post I was thinking of. Glad you got something to work. Glenn.
