Question about Brexit

Nigel once said 'Australians have a chip on their shoulders'. We don't like to feel inferior to anyone, but I recognise the reality. The British have been done over so thoroughly over the last couple of hundred years, they would never be so naïve that they would cop what Australians cop from our politicians. I have watched video of the British parliament - they almost talk in Morse code and yet are far more effective than any of our guys have ever been. If we had a British politician in our Australian parliament, they might as well talk in Swahili, for all the understanding they would get.

Is that because Cantonese is now the official language spoken in Australian parliament?

According to an article I just googled, England will become what is defined in EU treaties as a "third country" not exactly third world, but not aligned with USA (1st world) Russia (2nd) or the EU.

Kinda like a lonely little turd circling the drain...

Yes well, they would say that wouldn't they

Transit 3rd world country then. Stepping stone for something even better. Immigration no issue for me, we raped half the world for our gain and now it's payback time.

I didn't say it was an issue, I just pointed pointed out that if we were a 3rd world country then we wouldn't have mass immigration.

I was in the UK in 2008. I really loved it. There is something about British quality - it is not only fit for purpose, the attention to detail is usually spectacular. Every country on the planet is affected by the population explosion. The British are probably the best equipped to cope. Their minds are more flexible, and they usually do what is proper. In Australia, we just go with the flow. In a minute we will have cities which are like termite mounds. Developers fund politicians to disregard planning.

I've got to agree with you Al. Just take a look at our Commandos.

Maybe one day I'll make it down to Australia. Seems like a wonderful place to visit, maybe not live ;)

Like most things, its what you make of it.
I used to live here from 2010 not far from the land of 'Home and Away. (Across the road from that small jetty)

I raped no one. why should I pay? how about the japs and germans apoligising for leaving us broke. or maybe the poles. or especially the French. hesitated backing the agreement and couldn't wait to get out of it. cant have a german bomb fall on paris! how about every bloody major city in England and Scotland. plus belfast!!!

Have you seen Pauline Hanson ? - There are about 5 more like her.

We have become over sensitive to interpretations of faith rather than a desire to be respectful of others beliefs. There is absolutely no requirement within the Qur’an for a Muslim woman to cover her face, the requirement is for women to dress modestly and cover their hair (considered a sign of their beauty and therefore reserved for their husband). The requirement only applies post puberty so those dressing their infants in hijab or burka are doing so because they wish to - NOT because it is a requirement of their faith.

The modern England you enjoy everyday was built upon the exploitation of "lesser" civilizations across the globe. Pillaging natural resources and directing trade for English benefit. Whether you like it or not you are profiting indirectly from centuries of injustice.

For the record I don't always agree with this argument but I do understand it's merits.

It depends on what you value and want. If you want Goodwood Revival or the Ufizzi Gallery, you are not going to get them in Australia. I have been to Europe twice and once to the west coast of the US. As a place to live, Australia has always been better than most other places - but 'change happens'. Our politicians are mainly godbotherers, so are not big on risk management or planning. If you ever come here, the biggest difference you will probably notice would be in the brightness of the colours. In the northern hemisphere, the light is different. We don't have that pollution unless the bush is burning.
I am retired and live in Benalla which is in north east Victoria. It is the best town in the best part of Australia. Every day is a holiday for me. Peak hour traffic is three cars at the lights ahead of you. If you ever come here, get in touch with me.

Some things are what they are. I don't care how the UK got wealthy, I simply appreciate it for what it is. I find the disparity in wealth unsettling. In Australia, it is not so obvious, but not much different. Be happy with what you have got, while you have it. Globalisation creates a levelling which might be ethical, but many people are going to lose while others benefit. What does the lowest common denominator look like ?

I have been on a beach in the south of England. There is no comparison. In Victoria, we have the 90 mile beach which extends from Wilson's Promontary to about Mallacoota. It is unbelievable, but you would not go swimming there - the fish are vicious. I now live about 300 Km away from it, so I don't go surf fishing these days. But when I was younger, I used to love going there.

Ahh, centuries of injustice ? - as in the treatment of North American Indigenous people ?
Yes, I suppose the British did impose their will on a lot of "lesser " civilisations who were no doubt more intent on eating each other

Look up the term "whataboutism". The second part of your statement smacks of racism.
