The media bangs on about 'kids' swarming the park or the beach in or near the metro areas. They are fresh out of patience and
youth has little of it to begin with. They are not the ones that are the canary in the coal mine, the ones to watch are the average
middle aged middle class people. In general they follow the rules, pay their dues, suck up what ever nonsense is the current
coin of the realm. I believe this weekend you will see them quietly going out, going to their friends houses and or having family
over TO STAY no matter the finger wagging our Our Leader.
I say this because that is what is happening in my neck of the woods however quietly it is being done. More pasties were sold in town yesterday than in a long time.
...and there was more litter on the paths than in a VERY long time.

But

Pfizer Covid vaccine 'is 100% effective against South African variant, beats Brazilian strain' AND works for at least six months - while lower antibody levels seen in lab tests do NOT affect jab's real-world protection

  • Studies by Pfizer and University of Birmingham prove it works against variants
  • Birmingham research found antibody levels after two doses were 'off the scale'
  • Small trial in South Africa saw nobody caught Covid virus after vaccination
  • Antibody levels have been lower in lab studies but people still have protection

If they have or are getting the vaccine, the 3000 deaths per day spike was 5 days ago.
We will see in the coming months as far as Brazil.

It looks like I should be in line for the jab some time late this year.

The UK will lead global efforts to set up a library of variants of coronavirus so countries can develop jabs to fight new strains more quickly, the vaccines minister has said.

Nadhim Zahawi said genome sequencing and the library idea was the UK's "big offer to the world".

The library, formally known as the "Variant Assessment Platform" will contain all the Covid variants that have been discovered and could be used by vaccine manufacturers to develop new jabs.

Other countries will be able to send Covid samples to the UK, which controls roughly half the world's genomic sequencing capability.

Boris Johnson has set a target for vaccine manufacturers to produce a jab to deal with any new variant within 100 days of it being discovered.

Today we got our Johnson vaccine. Shortly after the vaccination we had to sit in the car for 15 mins to be monitored, both our hearts were racing and felt uncomfortable ( that part is ok now, 6 hours later). 1700 were vaccinated at the place, there were another 640 to vaccinate, but they had to close because of some folks suffering with adverse side effects. We got ours, my mrs feels ok, well she is still drinking vino tonight. I feel like crap tonight. Feel like I have the flu and ache all over. Really feel like shit. I think I have all the side effects that I have read online. Hopefully will feel better by the weekend, I got to get the bike out.

My dad got the Pfizer shot and had a hung over like feel two or three days later, last one day.
Though we've approved the J&J shot in Canada, not yet recieved shipments, slated for later Summer. It is a different approach than mRNA or the live recombinant Adenovirus vector of AZ. J&J uses a inactivated recombinant cold virus to deliver the spike protien from COVID-19. This is why it does not require low temp storage like mRNA.

NZ is behind in the vaccine supply queue and we won't get any for the public until mid year. Just front line workers and hi profile government for right now.

Then again, we have had zero community transmission cases or lockdowns for a while now.... so I am cool with that.

I will have to commute into town next week and have to mask up to ride the bus. NBD. Though am not looking forward to an hour on the bus with a sling on.

I had my AZ vaccine a few weeks ago, no side effects. With the recent scare of blood clots surrounding this vaccine, I will be taking an Aspirin a day before and on the day I'm due my second shot. How much these small amount of blood clots has to do with the vaccine, the jury is still out on that. . . . .

Getting my 2nd Moderna shot tomorrow. Lots of folks are experiencing side effects from the 2nd dose, so I go with some apprehension. According to what I've read, those who get ill from the first dose may have had the virus at some time in the past. Not sure about the J&J single-shot.

Three years ago I fell ill from a flu shot. Sick as a dog for 24 hrs, all the usual digestive distress and my left arm (the one that received the needle) was paralyzed until the next day. The year after that, I skipped the flu shot, but had one this year, with no ill effects. Wondering if I unknowingly had the flu previously and that caused the reaction?

I'm signed up to get my AZ shot tomorrow at a local pharmacy. It will be such a relief to know I'll have immunity soon. Will let you know if I see signs of a second head appearing ;-)
