The US has a shortage of masks, gloves and shields for health care workers. No tests available on demand, Not enough ventilators. Yet the Republicans are intent on shoveling money to businesses that aren’t even American, like cruise ships. Senate majority leader, Republican Moscow Mitch McConnell, wants a $500 billion slush fund to be doled out by Steve Mnuchin to businesses for whatever. Let the American consumer decide who gets the money, not Steve Mnuchin.

This is a consumer driven economy, not a top down economy. If this economy can be saved, it will be saved by putting money in consumers’ hands, not giving taxpayer money to companies so they can buy back more stock and give CEOs bigger bonuses. The Republicans still believe in what trickles down a rich man’s leg is plenty for anyone who is not rich.

What seems to be lacking in dealing with this crisis is the lack of urgency. COVID 19 is not sleeping or taking long weekends off, like the Senate did weekend before last. If the US doesn’t soon develop a crisis mentality it will not survive as a country. Of course, that’s what the Tea Party and Grover Norquist advocated.

Yesterday, at a White House press conference, Trump was complaining how much money he is losing by being president. Well Donald, the American voter is going to help you out come November.

Considering Trump’s performance zero seems the correct amount. In fact, considering the costs of Trump’s 252 golf outings, he owes the US taxpayer a lot of money.

What absolutely staggers is that like the UK ,the US had considerable lead time to get this kit together. Presumably 'intelligence ' sources would
have known something was going down in China long before it was public domain knowledge. And yet nothing was done with this warning and now three months later they still havent caught up. This is just basic precaution . Just what kind of Political apparatus regards its frontline defence as expendable?

And as if that wasnt bad enough, Trump has been conducting an on going Trade War seemingly oblivious to the sheer volume of US securities that the Chinese hold. There will be no resolution of the economic fallout ofcoronna without the full cooperation of all major world trading powers.

Even if a brilliant administrator like General Marshall should suddenly appear in the Trump admin, the US doesnt have the necessary do re mi to resolve this acting alone . It cant even protect the health of its health workers in time .

Donald Trump would not allow a brilliant administrator to serve in his administration. His compulsion to be the center of attention
foregoes that possibility. Rex Tillerson most perfectly described Trump. "F__king Moron"

I’m afraid the United States has met the perfect storm, a pandemic and a totally inept president.

It seems Trump is flummoxed enough to cede some authority. He's even letting Pence speak, unlike the initial interview after the Donald's pick for Veep was announced, when Trump answered every question Pence was asked. I read the Admin is discussing opening up the Affordable Care Act to new enrollment because someone has finally realized Americans need health insurance.

If they're giving away money, they should first take care of the working folks who can't work. Then small businesses who can't weather a piss-poor economy. The corporations who used the big tax gimme to buy back stock and hand the money to CEO's and their boards instead of using it for r&d, infrastructure, technology, training and higher wages should be told to pound salt.

Hey Danno, how about those poor oil companies? Crude below $30/bbl. Just think, the CEO of Exxon-Mobil only made $15.8 million last year. Do you expect him to get by with less? :(:(:(:(:(

Just wait, soon the Repubs will want to give money to the US oil companies.

Republicans currently holding Americans hostage so Donald can have a multi billion dollar slush fund for his corrupt business cronies.

Bail out the cruise lines? Fuck em, they don't fly American flags, they don't pay American taxes, they don't provide American job protections. Why do they deserve our money?

I believe he also expects his hotels & golf courses to get a sizeable piece of that public funded pie.....and the cruise ships bring those properties lots of business too.

Yup, folks can be this stupid:

"March 23 (Reuters) - An Arizona man has died and his wife is in critical condition after they ingested chloroquine phosphate - an aquarium cleaning product similar to drugs that have been named by President Trump as potential treatments for coronavirus infection."

I believe coronavirus will change a lot of things politically. Those who do not vote in America are not innocent victims. And the same applies to Australians who are apathetic. One thing I have noticed here is the realisation by many that collectivism is important in a crisis situation. Since John Howard was Prime Minister, Australian politics has been based upon neoliberal individualism - doesn't really work when the chips are down. In the town in which I live, there is a strong community spirit and people actually care for each other.
