Primary rattle & knock

PrecisionBob,

I just noticed in a older post that you had a #90 map installed when the SBN exhaust was installed.
Was that a special SBN map for their exhaust system that was installed?
I haven't heard of a factory #90 map.
I bought the bike from South Bay Norton, it's one of the 50 SE's for the US market. I put a deposit on it in February 2011 and took delivery in May 2015. They were out of exhaust systems when I took delivery, so I took it home (700 miles from SBN) with stock exhaust & ordered the X-pipe and exhaust a couple weeks ago. I installed the system & removed my ECU & sent it to them for remapping. They said #90 was what they were now using for my X-pipe/muffler combo, which is the latest version of their pipes. I confirmed verbaly that is what they mapped it with. I'm sure it's a newer map but I don't know the origin. The bike likes the setup, and I'm very happy with the bike. I had my son ride it today while I did some roadside and following-bike listening, and the note is very nice, and not nearly as loud as it seems when piloting it. I think it's because of the angle of the pipe & something to do with sound waves.

That's great news. I've been waiting for SBN to complete their map for their X-Pipe/Dominator exhaust.
I've been using the #77 factory map since November, but it still leaves something to be desired on startups, and cold engine idle.
I'll contact Carlos at SBN.

Thanks for the update.

Regards.

He's no longer the only 961 owner in Utah, I just bought the red 961 off of Ebay after seeing his 961 in the flesh!

Interesting. I was swapping messages with an imposter on some free classified ad website that used eBay photos to display a Norton 961 WELL AFTER IT WAS SOLD ON EBAY. I am thinking it might have been yours, but I could be wrong.

The reason i suspect it was yours was because I did a search on the VIN and found out it went from CA to UT around last January.

If it's a picture of a red one in a driveway with DT pipes it's probably the one I bought. It didn't come to Utah until June. Mark.

Yip, I think it was yours. It did seem very odd that seller was only asking $9000.
