I was wondering if I could remove this and use the cables for an optimate socket instead as I have read you can charge the battery with this socket. Any thoughts?

Or keep it and make an adapter so yer optimate plugs into it?

I did give that a thought but heard the plugs are thin on the ground. Also as it looks shit and so I want to mag to grid it and tuck a replacement out of harms way.

So are you saying it can be used for battery charging?

I use mine for charging all the time. Filed down some cable pins? (I don't know what they are actually called) I found at Radio Shack. Good luck finding them there now!

They're still available: http://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/commando ... g_3923.htm

I had always assumed they could be used for charging (mine doesn't have one), best wait for someone who knows what they're talking about to chime in!

Ah, I see them. Comes to something when the seller apologises for the price though. Thanks for taking the trouble Nigel. I'd have to buy that and a suitable extension to graft onto the Optimate cable so I can still use the charger on other bikes. I might as well just buy the female Optimate socket for about £4.00 so I can get rid of that stock socket and hide the new one out of sight. I'll ebay the stock socket.

Many thanks for the information.

Fairy Nuff Cab, can't say I blame yer either.

But if you're going that route, why bother with the old plug wiring at all? I think I'd just remove it and wire my optimate charging plug direct to the battery terminals.

Of course, if you have a Shoria battery, no such work is required as their charger plugs directly into the battery. Damned Japanese product design...!

I did give that a thought too. On my Dommie we hard wired a socket into the loom as the battery is so hard to access. With a socket available just under the seat it's a tool less exercise so I might just do that.
