Powdercoating

Actually you can powdercoat about anything as long as the cure temperature does not damage it.

There are low temp powdercoats available also. There are even ways to cure powdercoat on plastic.

Suggest sending your nuts and bolts off to be re-cadmium coated, well worth the small amount of money ( you'll find an aviation electro-plater that still does CAD ):
Powdercoating

Josh, that silver frame is stunning?

I am not familiar with re-plating. Is there a build up on threads of the nuts and bolts that would interfere with torque the nuts?

T95,

The nuts and bolts on the bike have been CAD coated at manufacture, after years of being dragged on the ground, edges worn off with metric spanners etc etc, the CAD breaks and wears away.

Before sending off to be re-CAD coated, I tap and die all threads, clean up all edges on a light sanding disc.

The electroplater removes all the old CAD in an acid bath, the nuts and bolts are totally clean, then re-electroplates the CAD on. The coat is very very thin so does not effect the operation of the nuts and bolts.

With CAD covered nuts, bolts and bits, the chances of corrosion is significantly reduced and it looks nice.

Remember the nuts and bolts you see in my picture are over forty years old, they look pretty good for their age.........

I do my own powdercoating. Currently doing parts for two guys restoring Triumph bikes.

The key is the prep work as was said before.

I have seen this guy at work. does great plating work, especially if you need smaller batches.

Josh,
Thanks for the explanation. You do quite a bit of prep before sending them off. If one does not have all the proper taps and dies to chase the threads would it still be safe to send them off?

I don't know about the nuts on your bike, but that squirrel of yours has a set to be proud of. Is he over 50?
