I found this master cylinder on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-XJ650-XJ ... j4&vxp=mtr . I was thinking of trying this master cylinder with the CNW adapter plate for my stock switchgear. It has a 12.7mm bore, 7/8 clamp and it has a polished look that might not look too out of place on the commando. I was thinking I would have a venhill line made for it. From what I understand, the lockheed caliper would take a 3/8 x 24 bolt? Do you think this setup would work and be of decent quality? Thanks, Josh

Looks like the angle of the reservoir requires a steep bar angle like a clip on maybe? The bore size should be ok for a single caliper he hydraulic fittings are a one banana job, lots of stuff out there can be had to make a fit or a one off line from a vendor. Fred at Brit Cycles can make up whatever you need as many others can. Just make sure they know the proper size fitting for the caliper.

I think a single line is easier to deal with for fittment and bleeding. Multiple lines are a pita, hold air bubbles and the steel lines complicate matters often. I'm having bleeding issues with both front and rear brakes on my MK3. I used a single up front which is ok but could be better and the rear... Well it's a cluster F with too much air in it, steel lines up over and under things, fluid switch (rear brake light), it's a mess. I've bled brakes and hydraulics on many different cars and bikes, this one is by far the worst. Keep it simple! One line! My 2 cents.

Looking at a close up of the product, the casting quality looks particularly poor. I would fit a unit from a popular Japanese bike. I have fitted one from a Honda CBR600. Good piston ratio and adjustable span, built in micro switch for brake light. Looks neat too. I've just finished fitting a Honda CBR 600 rear master cylinder to my 2LS hydraulic rear drum brake. (made up from British Leyland Mini front wheel parts about 30 years ago. My original Triumph Herald master cylinder gave up the ghost and looked a bit of a dogs dinner)
