Politics and religion

How long before the 'powers that be' veto: 'Non essential journeys?' It seems to be descending into farce, somewhat, so who knows what the next bright idea will be..

“Seems to be”

Ya think!?

It’s well past that already IMHO.

One unsupported knee jerk reaction after another.

Businesses are gonna start falling like dominoes soon, and the jobs they support... you can’t put countries into (pseudo) lock down without serious consequences.

People keep drawing comparisons to wartime... but in wartime governments soaked up the masses with conscription and employment for the war machine.

That part is missing from this situation. Not to take anything away from those that are seriously effected by this virus, but it’s the economic fall out that’s gonna hit the masses...

Well some good news on the virus at our Royal Brisbane Women Hospital they have come up with 2 drugs that have killed the virus dead but they are in the testing stage to find out which drug works best, they have sent the drugs to China and they just need $750k to further these test and so far has been funded by the Hospital board and hopefully the GOV will help, they have been working with NSW and VICTORA Hospitals to combat this virus and should have results back in 3 weeks, there are some smart people in our Hospital systems here in Aus with our free Hospital systems, but they always struggle to fine funding and the call has been put out.
So fingers crossed.

Well done, if it is 100% successful. Do you think your smart people in Oz can come up with a vaccine that can kill the flu virus?
I won't hold my breath.

I am sure they have, but the professors working on this virus are from the infectious desiese ward and have been working on this virus since it was first reported in China and have grown the virus in the LAB, so they are well ahead in their field with this virus and after they find a way to kill it they will work on a vaccine for it.

Well we can only cross our fingers.

Ashley

Whilst that is great news Ash, it is still probably two years away from being available as a general vaccine.

Its still great progress because they are saying this virus ain’t going away, it’ll be a seasonally reoccurring ‘normal’ virus for us. So a vaccine will be a help in future.

But sadly it won’t be able to help us get out of the current mass hysteria / mass panic situation.

Sanity will be restored when it has to be. The economic situation is going to hit home pretty
quickly. The only thing we have in this town is tourism.

Sadly, leadership in the United States is sorely lacking. The Liar-in-Chief (Trump) does not instill confidence. Now we see why we need an intelligent, competent, trustworthy president. Not a narcissistic reality TV host. Getting a border wall and two conservative Supreme Court justices does nothing to help a nation in crisis.

Of the seventeen candidates that ran for president in 2016 the Republican primary voters chose the worst of the lot.

Not sure about your chosen candidates you have one very old man and another not to far behind him, old school thinking in modern times.

Ashley

Old school beats total chaos.

Old school thinking has also created a lot of wars and sending troops to far away places where it will never end which also drags our country into it.

I wouldn't call Sanders "old school" at all. He may be a typical left leaning politician in most European countries but here in America he is a "revolutionary radical socialist" or, Satan if you prefer.

Biden is old school.

Trump just makes everyone sad.

Not everyone, just his opposition which is approximately half the country.

So every OTHER one...

Thought you learned your lesson about delving into controversial politics? Apparently not. Or are you and JimC just continuing
your personal feuds on this thread? I support your right to express yourself 100%, but this is getting old even if I do agree with
many of your thoughts.

Just maybe you think of Bernie as a left leaning socialist because America has veered to the right the past 45 years. After all, the US is the only nation among any of the industrialized nations not to have nationalized healthcare, paid family leave, (up to one year in some countries) subsidized post high school education, 6 week paid vacation, to name a few.

Am I reading those graphs correctly? The ratings for every president shown is fairly constant - mid 40s approval rate with mid 50s disapproval....
So theUS public are pretty pissed not matter who is in charge

I read it as 11% more of those polled disapprove than approve of Trump.

As for past presidents, hardly relevant. It’s Trump we have to depend upon. Pretty leaky vessel IMO.

If Trump and Moscow Mitch McConnell don’t quit screwing around a financial tsunami will swamp the whole country, probably take Canada with us, too. McConnell allowed the Senate to recess for four f-ing days. Republican senators are still playing petty politics.

Trump was good for tax cuts for business and the wealthy, appointing conservative judges and making his supporters feel chuffed. Now this country, actually the whole world, is in crises. Our best hope is for Trump to perform better than any world leader ever has. Frankly, I think he is far from up to the task.

This thing is far beyond petty politics. We are all on the same ship.
