I have been told it is not polite to discuss politics or religion. The two are often related and what else is there to talk about besides motorcycles. If I was out to dinner I could discuss quantum mechanics or pattern recognition, then I would be stuffed.

Just don't bring God, Allah, Brahman, Buddha, Sun Myung Moon, Trump, Pelosi, Bill, Hillary, Bernie, Biden or wearers of foil hats into the discussion, and we should be fine. :D

No thanks I stay away from both, safer that way, politisions lie to your face and make broken promises and the only religion I believe in is my motorcycle religion, my workshop manuals are my bibles.

Wasn't it Milligan who wrote that people don't enjoy religion... they suffer from it? Mind you I'm only making an observation, not passing comment :-(

Oh! I do take such joy from Taoism. But then it is not a religion.

Discussion on the environment might be right up there with politics and religion ( and oil threads and tire threads and blah - blah - blah)

I really do believe that we are becoming MUCH worse at discussing anything with anyone whom we disagree with.

You see it all the time, especially on t’internet, discussions start but rapidly descended into name calling and all out entrenched, defensive arguing.

People are losing the ability to debate, to respect or even accept there may be different opinions to their own, and definitely the ability to agree to disagree once both sides have made their points and reached a stalemate.

If you look at internet debates you can see that real discussion usually ends very early, you can see that people become fully entrenched in their argument, meaning that they are absolutely NOT open to listening or changing their position at all, yet they persist in the expectation that the other side should. When this point is passed, the only thing being a achieved is the creation of anger and frustration.

IMHO, generally speaking, the internet does a pretty good job of making us look stupid !

Safe topic has traditionally been “the weather” ... fast eddy is correct ‘bout discussions on forums etc. , however not everyone is quite as feisty when talking face to face .....

You've hit the nail on the head right there

Problems with religious discussions usually center around the fact that God has nothing to do with religion.

Religions are man's way of attempting to put God in a little box that feels good to THEM. THAT is why there are SO MANY "religions", each one caters to a specific crowd that they've figured out how to "stroke".

Heck, there are even two kinds of Baptists! (or maybe it's up to 3 by now...)

In other news, COVID 19 has cleansed the roads of vehicular traffic. Seniors confined to their living rooms, texting teens their bedrooms and panic stricken baby boomers their toilet paper forts!

The road belongs to the motorcycle.

Now that's a good spin on things :)
I'm home for the next 2 weeks (at least), so perhaps I can actually get the likes ready early this year. Then if the weather co-operates, it could actually be enjoyable!

It's 85*F here in south Ga. This senior is going for a ride.

How long before the 'powers that be' veto: 'Non essential journeys?' It seems to be descending into farce, somewhat, so who knows what the next bright idea will be..
