I took typing in 9th grade. Typing has been a part of my life since 1970. Still not good at it! Between poor typing, auto correction, and my damned keyboard it's hard to even write a simple message. My expensive laptop is just out of warranty and my f, v, and sometimes u, and h keys require 1 to 20 hits to work. I hate the modern "chicklet" keys to start with and they are not fixable like the old mechanical keys. Spent an hour today finding out that a replacement keyboard is not available.

Fantastic computer, terrible keyboard. Oh well, anyone with as many bikes and me should just shut up and order a new laptop I guess.

My laptop is not overly young, but I have fixed and replaced keys, usual source of refusal to move is something stuck underneath them. Vacuum and small brush usually cures.

i am a journalist by trade type with two index fingers .. hunt and peck .. max wpm about 20.. fingers cant keep up with brain. ...very left handed too.. but i get it done ... sooner or later

On-screen keyboard and mouse or touchpad (Ubuntu shown).

A young woman was applying for a secretary job. Her interviewer said we need a typist, can you type or are you just a huntin' pecker? Oh no she said, I really need a job.

Ya, I'm not even putting the vacuum away. I'll vacuum the f and v and they'll work for a few minutes then stop again. Because the keys are surrounded by plastic rather than the chicklets on the surface, it's nearly impossible to get whatever got in them, out.

Yep - hence I always use a silicone keyboard cover - cheap as chips on ebay

Remove the key

Not likely to be from contamination, more like its hit a MTBF (mean time between failure) limit.
I usually use external keyboard on my laptop, as it spends most its time parked on my desk anyway.

Found a way to fix them. The edge of the keys is below the plastic that surrounds then so vacuuming doesn't work well. But lifting them with a dental pick and then vacuuming works.

A separate keyboard and mouse are too annoying for me. I've been using trackpads way too long and it's annoying to take my hand from the keyboard to the mouse and back.

So wonderful: ffffffffffvvvvvvvvvv hitting them and them working! Even uuuuuu who hasn't worked well for months.

Those do come off, you just need to commit to it. Congrats on solving your problem though, enjoy!

I use usb plugins, alternative options are corded (no batts), cordless or bluetooth.

Been a road warrior 28 years. Company laptop for 26 years.
They are cheaply made junk now.
Keep the potato chips/crisps in another room.

Spent most of my working life with software coding. Was not bad for a consultant paid by hour to use only two fingers. Worn out more keyboards than I could count.
Only one I never worn out was a Teletype. Still have it. Remember those punched tapes we used for numerically controlled lathes and mills?
