At what piston speed does ring-flutter begin to occur in a motor. At 7000 RPM in a long-stroke Commando engine, the piston speed must be fairly high ? -

Yes, it is - it was something we had to consider with the Omega pistons we had made.

Preignition or in old UK pinking can cause ring flutter and accelerate ring groove wear.

In conversation with Richard Bendell, he mentioned the long stroke of the Commando motor might create piston speeds at which ring flutter might occur. He is more into cars than motorcycles, but has a lot of experience with really flash motors.
My 850 motor feels as though it would deliver power at 10,000 RPM. It is difficult to avoid over-revving. It does not seem to lose compression at high revs. At 7000 RPM, it is stronger than it is at 5000 RPM.
