Pictures of your Norton 961

Just had a nice Sunday morning ride along the Pacific Coast and back up through the canyons. Took this picture at the Point Mugu Naval Air Station missile park. I spent a lot of my life working there. I started as a student trainee in 1959 at the age of 17, just two weeks out of high school and married for less than a week. At that time it was called the Naval Air Missile Test Center. I worked there, with a couple of breaks for college, until I retired at the begining of 1996. The base went through some organizational changes over the years, and by the time I left it was called the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division. I came back as a contractor to the Tomahawk Cruise Missile project office, one of the projects I had worked on at the base, and stayed in touch with friends there until I finally retired for the last time in 2004. Back in the early '70s, I used to commute to work occasionally on my '71 Commando Production Racer. One of the other engineers at work had an early SOHC Honda 750, and we regularly used our lunch breaks to strafe the local coast roads. He talked me into trying road racing with him, the beginning of a lifelong addiction.

Chasing a mate on his Ducati V4 rocket ship around the Sunshine Coast hinterland - 80 bhp v 220 bhp! F*#@k that things quick! Still reckon I won the ‘styleee‘ stakes though! Norton got way more attention than the Duc too, which of course I hammed up as much as I could! Long live Norton.

Thanks mate. Yes got lucky. What are the chances of going onto ‘gum tree‘ and finding the private sale of a brand new set of carbon wheels for a 961, at half price! I saw it as a consolation for missing the 5k repairable writeoff 961 that popped up last year, that I missed by 5 minutes cos I checked with the wife! Moral of the story? Never check with the wife!!

Was hoping the 11,473 miles clue would help you all out. That gentlemen is none other than young @Raphi He's been trapped in New Zealand far from his native Switzerland for the past four months! Dropped into my place on a couple of occasions in his motorhome. I'd just taken his kids out for a blast in the Lotus and grabbed that picture. He's due to fly out on Thursday. He decided he didn't fancy taking the Norton for a blast on a wet day with a steep 300m gravel driveway to negoiate first!

At first glance I thought it was Charley Boorman. New Zealand is definitely a good place to be at the moment.
