The oil change found two metal teeth.
Now you know that they are from the starter motor. One thought also that the cylinder is not nicosyl coated.
that's what he is.
And a broken oil pump must also be replaced.
The engine is in otherwise a very good condition.
no serious damage.
Put together and still the engine management upgraten.

Check crank bolts.

Richard is referring to the crankshaft center bearing support plate bolts . What year is the bike ? Read Richard-7 manuals and you can see the pictures.

Wow!!

Great weekend, watched Wales dispatch England for a historic win. Good drive back, cut the grass for the first time this year. Beautiful day, about
14 degC so out on the 961. Have had a couple of starting issues and cutting out, but took it for a blast around the country roads about 40 miles and became a member of the cafe racer ton up club

Congratulations on both counts and in Webb Ellis cup year. I hope I got the spelling right.

I’m never far from a tea shop & today was no exception, this the “airport cafe” on the A20 between Ashford & Folkestone, whilst on way to get suspension tweaked at “ tagg racing” bethersden i had to abort the journey due to a rather unpleasant rattle /knock from bottom left of engine as I changed into top gear, clutch in,engine off & recovered home, bikes 3 years old this week &16,400miles on the clock, damn & blast as I was cock a hoop with my £30 repair to decat yesterday only to have this happen today ,going to drop the gearbox oil at the weekend & remove engine casing to see what’s occurring, this is my first real issue with the bike, spoke to norton on phone afterwards & will send them some pics what I find.
Feel a new thread coming on ,so I will still go to “rykas cafe “ Sunday & catch up with u fellow New Nortoneers for some inspirational banter, in my pick up though

Sorry to hear your issues Richard, remember what your granny used to say - troubles come in 3’s so look out for number 3....

Sad news Blighty but we'll be there on Sunday to catch up on diagnosis and cheer you up a bit. Might even shell out on a cuppa for you.

Mine is 4 years old with 9.3 on the clock and have had two breakdowns in that time. Fortunately the AA got me fixed at the roadside on both occassions.

We’ve seen a few ring gears come apart. Hopefully not that. If not, drop bottom sump plate and see if anything falls out. Like crank bolts. Hopefully not that either.

Keep us posted. Sorry to hear Richard

Sorry to hear that, Richard. How did you get home? Curious as to what Stuarts problem was. Relay backed out? Always carry that 5MM hex key with you. I carry the 5 for the seat bolts and the 3MM for the IAM flange.
