Pictures of your Norton 961

Quick trip out to Northamptonshire today. Was too busy enjoying myself to take photos. (And also a bit warm when I wasn’t riding)

Barnes Wallis tall boy caused a mini earthquake..
I found the whole site very creepy.
All that technology designed to kill people.

We have this locally. Admittedly a fascinating place, especially the 'undercover/secret agent' stuff, but as you say, step back and wonder at the celebration of all things destructive....
And the beaming kiddies seem a tad inappropriate, perhaps?

and it’s nothing compared to what we have today…
I think this may be the one which was bombed intentionally while the cement was still half wet.

Many tons of concrete and slave labour lives then vs a few lab technicians and test tubes now.......

It never launched any V2s.
Tall boy sorted that out.
It’s in a nice area with lovely roads. Not to belittle the seriousness of the site.

from what I read when visiting, the fuelling of V2s involved a lot of highly inflammable chemicals, which was too risky with bombing raids more frequent, and that the Allies were approaching from the west. The Tall Boy bomb landed within 50 yards. A big crater, but negligible damage to the concrete. Site also known as the Blockhaus d’Eperlecques, for obvious reasons!

Nope, does’nt matter how hard you try, it is’nt possible to get a bad picture of this machine - from any angle! Quick 120km sprint into the hinterland today with my riding buddy.

Bike behaved flawlessly - no hint of the once per ride ‘keep you on yer toes’ stall. Until that is I decided to nip into town at the end of the ride to pick up some parts for my KTM. Got into traffic, in between buildings, temperature rising and she stalled behind a car. Did’nt start first time. Let it settle for 30 secs, start, ride off, all good! I just know one day soon I’ll do a whole ride without that single stall that saps the confidence!! The 961 CR ain’t no town bike!

Awesome short ride though - I was approached by two seperate old boys wanting to talk about their 850 Nortons from back in the day, before I even got off the garage forecourt at the start of the ride. Gotta love it!

Looking good Stephen but how do you keep it so clean!

C’mon guys, we all know that clean bikes are faster bikes don’t we? It’s all about wax and the coefficient of wind friction. A good coat of Mcguigans is worth at least 5HP! Everybody know that right!

The real reason is ‘beer and bluff’. The Dragon Queen thinks I’m in the garage being productive - make some ocassional random noises as cover. What I’m actually doing is polishing my rocket (Norton that is:oops:) and drinking copious amounts of beer! Upstairs at the Fuhrer’s ‘beck and call’ or downstairs fettling? Simplz!

Plus I live on the Sunshine Coast so she rarely (read never) sees rain.

Talking of Clean bikes, en route to the Essex norton owners club bash tomorrow & just checking in to hotel near by, returned to bike & OMG , Vandalism 1st thought , 2nd thought seagulls & then it turned out to be the instant ice pack that’s been in ma tank bag for 6 yrs ! Bewildered not the word

It's always the last thing you think of.
Hope there's nothing caustic or corrosive in the goo.
