Picking up my 961 tomorrow-It’s back and I’m Smiling

I hope the dealer is talking to Norton , because the factory may have more experience dealing with these issues.

Like with Stephen_Spencer‘s bike (see thread ‚Spoke to Soon!‘) this could be an issue with the sensors (esp. head temp).

I would appreciate if Norton factory could tell us what quality control procedures are in place to reduce to a very low level these elecs problems on brand new bikes. This has been going on for years now, and should have been sorted out properly some time ago.

Hi Tony, so do I, just starting to get annoyed now, call from Dealer yesterday with a promise to be back in touch Saturday morning at the latest. I know here he still has time but my patience is now wearing thin.

Gary, as painful as this is right now, rest assured it is almost certainly some ‘tuppeny-haypenny’ relay that’s at fault. And once it’s fixed, all will be well in your world.

Latest update is bike is running as sweet as it was when I rode it, almost to my home. Dealer found it would still not start once it gets hot, after test run today.
I’m angry but not the Dealers fault and Norton don’t send them out with faults on purpose. It’s just unfortunate, so I keep telling myself.
If it wasn’t that the one and only ride I had was so great it would be worse. I’m just not sure how I feel, let down because it rode so well or angry because it was so good and now it’s been taken away.
Dealer and Norton will no doubt address the issue and I’ll get it back next week sometime. It’s worse I suppose because I waited so long to get it and it’s been snatched away.
Thank you all for the support and once I get it back I hope to meet up with you, those in England at the next gathering.

I don’t know if this consoles you, but a Swiss costumer was going to the dealer to receive his 961 in 2012 after 9 months waiting time. He was especially going the day when the truck arrived with the delivery from Donington. When the truck was opened, he saw that another Norton Commando was falling down on „his“ bike during transport. Don’t ask how long he had to wait again for a new bike, because I don’t know it...

My new 961 cafe had engine management light problems from 5 miles in April this year , it came on and off , I was a long way from home so just rode it,
It cleared by itself

It then came back on the following ride, bike seemed to ride ok though
After this happening on and off for a week or so , it hasn't come on since

I think Gary is in his right to ask for new bike, these bikes are serious money and shouldn't have to a accept this

Wassapnin’ Gary ??
Spoke to the Dealer today, he warmed it up, took it out and when back at the workshop it stopped and started all okay. We discussed this around 1230, Dealer wanted to wait until the bike was cold and run it up again. Spoke to him just after 1700 and it has started fine everytime.
Good news it will be dropped off back to me Thursday, so I’ll get the big smile from ear to ear again. I can’t wait.
As annoying as this has been, the Dealer has only ever wanted to ensure that it was ready to be returned.

That’s sounds good... but...

Can he tell you what was at fault and how he fixed it?

If not, I'd be worried it’s gonna return...

Issue due to relays, not sure whether they were replaced or reconnected. I’ll get a firm answer tomorrow, so happy just to get it back, I know that he wanted to be sure before returning it and not have the fault reoccurring. Didn’t think to get a definitive answer but will do so.

Great result mate now enjoy went out with 20 mates on Sunday everyone including the youngsters love it back to pub to chew the fat brilliant

Do you plan to install the short open pipes or the long open pea shooters? Provided they make it run again. .......

Is the bike sorted now Gary
Hi John, I’ll find out for real tomorrow when it’s delivered. Driver will call me when he’s half hour out, not sure if I’m first or second. He has two and the other to drop is in Salisbury.
I’ll be out on it tomorrow and will post an update.

Well it’s back, worked from home, warned everyone on the conference call that if I dropped out it was because the 961 was back. Mid way through, delivery driver called my mobile, ended conference call and out I went to meet him.
Just one big smile for the rest of the day, had to dial back in, strangely I didn’t have a lot to add. Phone down, kit on and off for a quick 20 mile wander to Alton and back.
So basically, back to where I was last Wednesday, minus the breakdown. It ran great, only problem is my aching jaw from the huge smile.
I’ll be commuting about 15 miles each way on it, assuming I don’t have the need to take a very scenic route for a few days.
Thank you all for your comments and I hope to meet up with some of you soon.
Gary
